How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For the last four years, I have been struggling to get a child. I decided to seek medical attention to know what would have been the cause and whether it can be rectified. The reason for not conceiving was that I had blocked ovary. Unfortunately, there was need for an operation but I didn't have money to seek medical attention. We mainly depend on subsistence farming for a living which was not even enough to take care of the basic needs. With the first transfer from GiveDirectly, I was able to have the surgery done. Therefore, I am hopeful of having a baby soon after I get well. Years have gone but the good news is that hope has been brought back after the correction . I do have livestock too which I have been longing for a long time.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion , GiveDirectly did well through assisting the less fortunate families in my village. Personally , my life has had a bigger turn over that GiveDirectly would never know because I own the livestock which I would admire from my neighbors . I now have them in the courtesy of GiveDirectly .
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent a larger part of my first transfer to buy a pair of dairy cow . I am glad that one is page hence an anticipation of milk from it in the next few months which shall be an advantageous to me since I shall no longer buy milk from my neighbors . I bought two goats and food with the remaining amount of money .

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I thank GiveDirectly for their financial support. I have been married for four years now without a child. I realized later on that I could not conceive due to complications of my reproductive system. Due to limited resources, I never visited any hospital to seek any medications thus lived a miserable hopeless life thinking that my system failure couldn't be corrected. The stigma and unrespect from my society slowly put me in depression that I had lost hope of getting out of it. When I received my first transfer, I felt so happy since the hope of getting out of my depression was now seen as possible. I took part of it to visit an expert and I feel this is the biggest difference in my life. I am grateful and happy because I went through the surgery and I am sure that I will be able to conceive and have children for the first time. I feel happy since this has taken away the shame I had carried for long, bring back the lost joy in my life and made me worth again in my society. Thank you GiveDirectly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer notification early in the morning as I was already up for my days' tasks. As I was going through the messages on my phone, I came across the one message that I have been anxiously waiting for, it was a message from GiveDirectly confirming that I had received my first transfer from them. I felt so happy because the things that seemed so impossible to me could be seen being possible.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have been married for four years now without a child. I had visited a health expert who later on confirmed that I had complications with my reproductive system. Even though they confirmed that it could be corrected through surgery, I could not go for the surgery since I could not raise the whole amount of money required. I thank GiveDirectly because when I received my first transfer, I went through the surgery and I am grateful because once I recover, I am assured that I will be able to conceive. After clearing all my medical bills and other hospital expenses, I spent the remaining amount to buy foodstuffs that would ensure that I am taking a balanced diet, and in paying for other household basic necessities and other household expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Owning a decent job for myself has been my wish for long but this dream has never come through due to financial challenges I face in my life. Before marriage, I had a greatest desire to do a salon business but due to poverty, I was forced to get married to my husband whose job is to vend water to earn him at most 2 dollars per day. The arrival of Givedirectly has brought great relief in my life since I plan to enroll in in-salon classes and in completion of my course, I will start my own salon. This will be a reliable source of income for the family and a hence, a great transformation that I have longed for.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The afternoon is the best part of my day since I get ample time to practice plaiting hair of my friends, something which is my hobby. I spend my morning hours to fetch water from the nearby tap while the evening hours, I spend them on doing other household chores.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I consider the lack of a reliable source of income as my biggest hardship in life. This is because I am just a housewife and a dependant to my husband whose work is to vend water, a job that does not earn him enough income to fully cater to the family needs. This has forced us to live a miserable life, a situation that has robed away my joy.
