How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before getting these cash transfers, I didn't have land and oxen of my own, I hired pieces of land to cultivate crops and even oxen which couldn't give me an opportunity to stock my hearvest since the yields I get was sold for hiring land and oxen which often resulted to food shortage in my home. However, when I received my transfers from GiveDirectly, I was able to get pieces of land and an ox that I believe will give me chance to stock my hearvest.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to give me unconditional cash that I used to pay for the piece of land. I haven't noticed any thing bad with GiveDirectly it's operations are well organized, people get the exact amounts of money they are told during enrolment.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer to purchase a bigger mattress, clothes for children, utensils, paid for a piece of land, hired a piece of land and lent oh UGX 500,000 in exchange of a piece of land.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is different now because I have acquired an oxen to do ploughing. Additionally, this transfer has facilitated the harvest activities and the food has reached home intact. Prior to receiving the transfer, I could just hire oxen for ploughing which was expensive, also more of the harvest could be sold and little was taken home for consumption.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer, I became so happy that I could not sleep again. I was very excited to receive that big amount of money on my phone for the first time.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on purchase of a bull at UGX 750,000, repairing the bicycle and a motorbike at UGX 400,000 and for paying labor to do harvest work.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means completing construction of the house we are staying in. Currently, we stay in it but it is not complete. It does not have the varrendar in order to protect it from water and its ceiling is not complete. It will support in paying casual labourers for harvesting crops and also weeding some. We struggle a lot currently single handedly to harvest and it is very hectic.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at 3:00PM, when I have completed most of my hoisehold chores. That's the time I will be playing with my children and taking them through their home work which makes me feel happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of a reliable source of income is our main hardship. We have bought a plot of land in order to construct a commercial building that we would rent out to business people and utilize it as a source of income. That has not been acahieved because of lack of funds for the same.
