How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not have received the money from give directly I could not have managed to construct a water point. I am glad I now have a source of income where I get money for my daily up keep and at the same time I am able to get water with ease. I do not need to walk along distance in search of water as used to do before, like wise to the community I have really changed their lives from walking a long distance in search of water. I also no longer depend on my spouse fully for everything as used to do before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give directly did very well by using M-pesa as away of sending money since it is very convenient because the M-pesa agent is almost every where and also very safe because it is not easy for one to know if you have received the money. They also did very well by not involving authority since it could attracted corruption.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the whole of the transfer to dig and build a water point. I have been going through a lot to get clean water for domestic use, I had to walk a long distance in search of water where I also had to spend money to buy water and this was applying to the whole community. When I got the money I was very happy because I knew my life will definitely change I will no longer work along distance in search of water. So i spent the transfer to hire machine to dig water point and bought bags of cement that was used to plaster the whole place. The water point has brought a big change in my life because a part from me getting water for my domestic use, it is my source of income too because I sell water to the community and get money for my daily up keep. I no longer do casual jobs that I used to do before to make ends meet because, what I selling in a day is enough to take care of my family needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I now have my own seats that I never had before. For instance, I used to borrow seats from neighbors whenever I had visitors but I do not that anymore.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy when I received the message from the organization. I informed my husband about the message and he was also so happy because he knew it was time to make a change in our lives.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the transfer to buy new chairs, a new table and seat cushions. The rest of the money went into starting a new shop business which I believe will generate some income for me into the future. I think that the money will help me get some cash in the future when the organization stops sending me the cash.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can finally repair my dilapidated house. The house is almost collapsing and I fear that it might harm some members of my family if it collapses when we are asleep.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is around midday after finishing all the chores in the farm. I usually relax with my female neighbours as we chat. The atmosphere is usually very lively and this makes me very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardships that I currently face is lack of enough money to pay school fees for my children. If I am unable to pay school fees for my children they may have to drop out of school. We also lack a source of clean water and have to travel long distances to fetch water. Whenever we fail to get clean water my children have to drink unclean water which exposes them to diseases.
