Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was winding down from my casual employment for the day when my phone rang. The sun was about to set. I quickly checked to see what sort of message it was since I was impatiently anticipating the promised transfer from GiveDirectly on that particular day. When I checked, I saw that I had gotten the initial round of GiveDirectly transfers. I ululated in delight and was pleased. I don't recall the particular song I sang that day, but I can say that I was happy and sang a happy tune.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The primary change brought about by the GiveDirectly transfer is the elimination of hunger. At first, our family went without meals for up to two days a week. I used to work sporadically at casual jobs that did not help me make ends meet since some days would go by without finding a job. We are content right now as a family since GiveDirectly has provided us with access to food.

I live in a single-roomed house with my six children, and some of them are teenagers and need privacy. I plan on using $550 to purchase iron sheets, cement, and other building materials. Then purchase enough food that can last us a month so that I can rest without going for the hard jobs. What is the happiest part of your day?
The only thing that makes me happy is when I get a job to do so that I can feed my children. When I have money to provide my six children with two meals a day, I feel delighted. Despite the challenges that I face, I work so hard to meet their basic needs and my children are my motivation.
