How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The cash transfers improved my living standards. I acquired oxen that have simplified farming. Previously I had to borrow oxen from the neighbours which was stressful. I am also glad that I also revived my local brew business. In this way, I am able to sustain my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to send us cash transfers. The beauty is that GiveDirectly empowered us with the trust to spend the cash transfers freely. Personally,GiveDirectly has only done great things for the community.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second cash transfer was spent to purchase a cow worth UGX 880000 and UGX 160000 was spent on purchasing a water tank. UGX 300000 was spent on purchasing three bags of ground nut seeds. The balance will be saved in the SACCO.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest achievement in my life is that I have bought my own oxen to facilitate agriculture. I suffered a lot before getting this money,I offered labor in other people's farms in exchange of the oxen for ploughing. In most cases, I would be offered oxen when the ploughing season is past.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I ululated the moment I received the mobile money message from GiveDirectly, I was so happy and I told God thank you for the money he gave me through this organisation.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought livestock (two oxen and a cow) at UGX 1,700,000. I choose to buy oxen to facilitate the ploughing process.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy a piece of land that I can cultivate. I also hope to buy oxen and an ox-plough using this same money. This will make the farming activity easier for me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the evening when I am seated with my neighbours. I feel relieved when I am chating with them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of land for cultivation. My dad gave me a very small portion of his land that only accommodates a home compound. If I have to cultivate then I have to hire land. This is very expensive for me considering my standard of living. Some times when I fail to raise money for hire, I have no option but to leave. Casual labour is what saves me most of the time because I can work and earn some money that supports my family. Food shortage is very common I my household but I have nothing to do about it. I have no money that I would otherwise use to buy land. I am just in a mix of poverty.
