How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Even though I had this clothes and shoes business before I became part of the Give Directly charity program, I was not able to make enough money from it because it was still very small and I solely depended on it for all my household and personal needs. I was always late on my rent, and could barely provide sufficient foodstuff for my children. The transfers have made it possible for the business to grow because I no longer take out much from it as I did before given that I use the transfers for most of my needs.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I do not have any additional goals at the moment because I am still struggling to achieve the initial plan I had of expanding my business. I want to be able to have a strong customer base which comes from having enough stock and always being reliable and dependable
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I usually use most of my transfers in paying for my rent and to top up the amount required to pay for the business stall where I run my business. I choose to spend the money this way so that I can channel most of my profits in boosting my business by adding more stock and taking care of other household needs. This is the only way I can grow the business to be in a position to support me fully once the project is over.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The business I have is because of GD transfers. Without the transfers, I would still not be having any form of income. I would still be struggling to raise money like it was the case before the transfers. I no longer go for casual work as before the transfers. Thanks to GD for changing my life.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
GD did well in elevating the life of the youth in the slums. We do really struggle to raise money to meet our needs because we do not have a good income. Thanks to GD most of us can handle their needs well. I feel that the other youth who are not in groups should also have been considered for the transfers
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying rent for my house. The payment was due and the business was not doing well. I could not get money from the business because it would have collapsed. The rest of it I used to boost my cloth business by adding more stock. The business was not doing well and I was running out of stock and I feared one day it will collapse. Thank GD for the transfer.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The business wasn't doing so well because it was my main source of income but since I didn't have any other source of income I couldn't replace the money I had spent on meeting the family's needs. This led to a drop in stock but I'm happy the business has started to pick because I have been restocking it with the GD money. I believe the business won't collapse any time soon because I have been able to add enough stock which is already generating a good profit.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I am a businesswoman, I normally sell both women's shoes and clothes. I have been doing this business for a long time but I have not been consistent with it. It has been on and off. I at times use all the profits especially when an emergency arises. This makes it had to get a new stock which eventually leads to the collapsing of the business. My focus currently is to boost the business using the transfers from GiveDirectly and stabilize it once and for all.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used part of the money I recently received from GiveDirectly to pay rent for my business premise. My business has not been doing so well. I have not been getting enough profits to sustain me but I have not given up on the business though because I have done several projects using the profits from it. I am planning to change my strategy and add a few things in order to revive it. The money, therefore, helped me because my landlord would have chased me and I would have lost everything. I also used part of it to pay my house rent. I believe I will have reorganized my self moving forward. I thank Give Directly for chipping in at this trying moment

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goal now that I have started receiving the money is to buy a piece of land and build a house. I will save part of my monthly transfers and also the income I will get from my business and later buy the piece of land. I will also build a house since currently I am living in a rental house. I will save the money I would have used in paying rent and use to meet other family basic needs. I will also do farming to provide enough food for my family and sell the surplus to earn an income.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have expanded my business where I sell second hand clothes and shoes. In the past it was hard to provide family basic needs and pay school fees for my daughter since the income I got from the business was not enough to meet all meet all the basic needs. I used my transfers to expand my business and the income I get is enough to pay school fees and provide for my family. I can pay school fees in time and her performance has improved since the head teacher no longer sent her home to collect school fees.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my most recent transfer to pay school fees for my daughter. I received the money at a time when I had not paid all her school fees. I have been struggling to pay her school fees and also meet other family basic needs with the little income I got from my business. At times she was sent home to collect school fees and this lowered her performance.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
It was seven o'clock in the morning when I woke up to the good news that I have received my transfers from Give Directly. I was very happy since I knew that I will expand my business since the income from the business was little and could not cater all my family needs.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
With this money that Give Directly is giving me, i will prioritize repairing my laptop because its a major tool that gives me money through transcriptions. I will by a new battery for the laptop so that i can be able to work even when there is no power. Secondly, i run a business of selling new clothes within my neighbourhood. I would like to purchase more stock especially now that we heading towards the festive seasons and business always booms around this time. Lastly, saving for my child is another thing i will want to accomplish. Secondary school is expensive and by saving now for her school fees it will save me the struggle ahead.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is my daughter because i am always afraid for anything bad that can happen to her. I fear for her being sick or facing any crisis especially when am not around her. Like when she is in school and am not there to help her out.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I just want to be a successful businessperson because i truly desire to move my mother away from mathare ghetto. I need to find us our own place to stay and be able to provide for my daughter anything she wants with struggling like I did. I can only achieve this by being a successful business person.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
When i woke up in the morning, i preparey daughter for school and take her to school, i come back carry out my house chores then i settle down and stsrt working on my transcription jobs.At 3pm i go get my child from school, prepare her the 4pm snack, bathe her and help her do her homework. Depending with the day, i go to the shop, my business place, until 6pm. I return home to prepare for supper then do some little transcription work before heading to bed. During my free time i sometimes watch football since i love football or i record my youtube videos.
