Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I can vividly recall that it was at 4 pm when I was at the field herding. Then suddenly, I heard my phone ringing and vibrating, upon checking what the message entailed, I realised that I had received money from GiveDirectly. This was the best thing that I had received in a long time. Thus, I was happy and excited because I knew that I would be able to accomplish my goals. I then informed my husband who was equally happy and finally, we embarked on planning. We are indeed grateful for the support that changed our living standards amazingly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I lack words to express the immense joy and happiness in my life, Never in my life have I witnessed such a great gesture for free. Therefore the biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to purchase a dairy cow for my family. I had a dream of acquiring one before but I was unable to realise it due to financial constraints. I am so happy that finally, I have achieved the goal, I am forever indebted to GiveDirectly for lifting my life amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a businesswoman specialising in selling maize and my husband works as a security officer in the township. We are blessed with one child. When I received my money, I opted to buy a dairy cow worth KES 50,000 to reduce the cost of buying milk daily. This is because we have been buying milk daily which is expensive yet I don't have a reliable source of income. I was unable to afford one before due to financial constraints, this is after my first cow died. Lastly, I bought foodstuffs and clothes with the remaining amount of the transfer. I am so grateful for the milestones that I have achieved in a short time
