How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed after receiving my transfers since I have built a decent spacious kitchen. I now have a decent iron-roofed kitchen which has boosted my self-esteem in society and given better comfort. This is a dream that I could not have fulfilled at my own cost. I had for long wished to have a decent house kitchen that can comfortably accommodate my children and even visitors when I have around but my overwhelming family needs never gave me a chance to build one. I had struggled to provide for my family which I could manage to meet after straining a lot doing casual jobs. My house small grass-thatched house got older and older thus started cracking and weak a situation that was becoming uncomfortable for me. I feel great having this new house courtesy of GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done my community a big favor in uplifting our living standards. We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I had been lucky to have built a kitchen that had been a long time dream using my first transfer. When I received my second transfer I used KES46000 to buy a dairy cow. It is my happiness to such a living asset in my homestead given that I will soon rely on for milk. I am looking forward to having more young ones that will always be my financial security. I spent the remaining amount on my household furniture. I enjoy the comfy of my house now that it is fully furnished with good seats.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life is different from how it was before because I have been able to build a decent and spacious kitchen for my family. I had started saving some money to use in achieving this but had to use it to pay for my children's school fees when they were sent back home. I am now glad since fulfilling this has allowed me to have different goals in life that I would like to achieve.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 am when I decided to power on my phone since I usually switch it off at night. It was at this time when I realized that I had received some money from GiveDirectly. I became so happy and I immediately informed my family about the good news. I knew that it was time for us to accomplish our goals as a family.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I spent some amount to buy some building materials to use in building a spacious kitchen for my family and also paid a mason for this work. We settled on this since the one we had was small and its roof was always leaking during the rainy season. Also, I bought a barbed wire to use in partitioning our farm. We partitioned it into paddocks so that when my livestock will be grazing on one section, the feeds on the other sections will be growing. I used the remaining amount to buy some household necessities. I bought thermos flasks, utensils, maize flour and decent clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The transfers could not have come at a better time!My daughter is due to join the University in September. My spouse and I were wondering where we will get the money to settle her fees as well as purchase all the requirements. This is because we have other children both in primary and secondary schools and the little income from my husband's job is insufficient to meet all these needs.Receiving this money therefore means that I will be able to settle my child in school and use the remainder to pay for the other children's next term fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening.Am happiest at this time because I will have evaluated my work for the day against the goals that I normally set every morning. When I meet them,I am happy and can finally sit and share a meal together with my family.Being able to fulfil what I deaired for the day makes me very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising school fees.I do not have a job and so every other need that my family has solely falls on my spouse. His salary is hardly enough to meet all these needs and this strains us most of the time
