How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before , I was employed as a barber in a nearby barber shop and the income was meager with a lot of demands such reporting to work early and living late meaning I didn't have time to spend with my family. My life is different from how it would have been if I never received this transfer I bought a motorcycle (Boda Boda) which I employed myself where I personally ride to make money. The money generated has helped me to sort my family's needs for instance paying school fees and feeding for my children. At the same time, I am able to schedule my work and create time for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by making it possible from members in my society have a drastic change in their living standards mostly the poor individuals through giving unconditional cash transfers. I also liked the fact that they did awareness through public addresses that emphasized security measures to put in place which mitigated incidences of fraud to the beneficiaries and was fruitful at the end of the day.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Having encountered a road accident with the motorcycle I had bought with the first transfer. I spent the larger part of my second amount of money on paying my medical bills 26,000 KES which assisted so much since at the moment I didn't have a medical cover and the bills were large which I couldn't afford to settle it. I am glad I didn't borrow friends and relatives or do a fundraiser for assistance. The remaining amount I repaired the damaged motorcycle and now I am using it as a source of income.
