Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I can vividly recall that I was at home preparing dinner for my family since it was late in the evening. When I was done cooking, I picked up my phone to confirm what time it was, upon reaching out to where it was I saw a text notification showing that I heard received a sum of KES 55,000 from Segovia technologies. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness because I knew that I would be able to accomplish my immediate needs. I then broke the good news to my husband who was equally happy and excited. We were all lost in happiness and excitement. I am so grateful for the support that lifted my living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life today is that I was able to purchase a dairy in which I am optimistic that I would get an adequate surplus of milk where I would be able to sell and earn an extra income and also get enough for our daily usage. Additionally, my land is well-fenced meaning that there will be no intruders stealing our farm produce. Receiving the unconditional transfer has been of a blessing in our lives thus we are grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Buying a dairy cow has been my innermost desire for a long period, I have a cow but I wanted a good breed that would give me enough milk for our daily consumption. I am a teacher, married and blessed with two children. Upon the receipt of my initial transfer, I used KES 45,000 on buying a daily cow which I was unable to purchase before due to other family responsibilities. I then used KES 5000 on fencing my land and Finally, I then used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I am forever grateful for the unconditional transfer that enabled me to fulfil my dream in a short period.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is a great opportunity for me to expand my farming activities in this land. The only limitation I was facing at the moment is the size of land available for tilling. A year ago through my savings, I managed to buy this one acre piece of land. I have since utilized it fully and I feel that I still have more capacity to cultivate more crops and my income could rise by more than half. I currently get KES. 4,000 on average per month from these farming activities and if I could use these transfers to buy 0.2 acres of land, my income could go to an average of KES.8,000 monthly. I therefore plan to use these transfers to buy 0.2 acres of land.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Last month I managed to harvest 100kg of beans from a small section of my farm and this gave me a lot of happiness because it exceeded my expectations tenfold.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge here is inadequate size of land. I would like to produce more crops and expand my income but land restricts my activities. It is a passion in me aside from my teaching profession that is why I used my savings to initially buy this land.
