Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that through this transfer, I managed to finish the construction of my residential house. I purchased the remaining materials and also acquired new windows and fixed them. Apart from this, I also bought a new plastic water tank that I now use to store adequate water for my domestic use. I no longer have to trek daily in search of water since its inadequate and one has to walk over distance to get it.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by a message notification, early in the morning. On checking to confirm, the message was from GiveDirectly informing me that I had received money from them. I could not sleep anymore. I was filled with happiness because my hope of completing the construction of my residential house that had stalled for months was finally revived.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent a larger portion of the transfer to complete the construction of my residential house which had stalled for some months. I purchased building materials such as sand and bricks to facilitate this. In addition to this, I also bought five new windows. Secondly, I bought two goats that I am currently rearing at my homestead. We are also experiencing a water shortage in our region which has persistently affected us since we have to walk for a long distance in search of water. Because of this, I purchased a water tank using the amount that remained. At least I can now store much water for my household thus relieving us of the stress of travelling daily.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My job is contractual and there are some instances that I spend almost three months without any income. I have always wanted to have an alternative plan that can supplement my income. This has triggered my desire to own Galla goats which are very productive and are a good source of income. I will therefore purchase them with this transfer and this will see my financial status rising to a better position. I will also fix permanent windows to my house and replace the cardboard which is not safe because of strong winds.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My day is always busy with labour intensive household chores. This drains my energy and I go to bed very tired. However, in the morning when I wake up I feel relaxed and very strong, thus making it the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My father suffered stroke since last year and since then he has not been able to work. Being the firstborn in our family, I have the responsibility of looking after my siblings. This has drained my financial resources because I have to pay for my father's medical bill, school fees as well as providing food. There are some instances that I had to pay his outstanding bank loans because he in not in a position to clear them.
