How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to provide quality education for my kids. Currently, I have two children who are about to join secondary school this year. They will require shopping and fees that are higher compared to when they were still in primary school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in helping poor households. Before the enrollment, they conducted a meeting that helped us to ask any questions concerning the transfer. Moreover, it was unconditional that give opportunity for every household to decide on how to spend the transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase 6 goats for KES 30,000. This is a future investment for my life, I will be able to sell when they reproduce to cater to any financial needs that might arise. I also saved KES 8000 to cater for fees for my 8 children who are still in primary school. In addition, I used KES 5,000 to acquire a modern bed for myself since the one I was using earlier was very small to accommodate both me, my husband, and the small kids. The remaining amount assisted me in acquiring enough food for the family since I was struggling to feed them.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
As I remember that day vividly, it was on 14th of October 2021 at around 10am. I was on a journey from a fisheries seminar back home when I received the transfer message from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy knowing that I have got a starting point on how I was going to develop my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My children are no longer being sent home out of school due to school fees. They are comfortably proceeding with their learning not as before when they could spend a better part of the term at home due to school fees. As far as food is concerned, my children are taking good meals now not as before when used to go to school without taking breakfast and also lunch wasn’t a guarantee hence unable to grasp fully what they were being taught at school due to hunger.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first thing I thought of settling was about school fees. I took KES 10000.00 and paid school fees for my five children who are in primary school so that they can concentrate on their studies rather than being sent home for fees like before. For the remaining KES 44700.00, I took KES 4700.00 and bought some food for the family but the rest is still unused yet. This is because I am still looking on how the climate of our area will change, and once it becomes favorable for me to rear some livestock then I will buy some goats which I kept a budget of KES 10000.00 for them and the remaining KES 30000.00 I am preparing some materials so that I build a house for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will buy goats to rear as a source of wealthy to my family .It will cost KES.20,000.My children are sleeping in my young brother's house because my house cannot accommodate all of us, therefore I am planning to use KES 20,000 to build a two bedroomed house for my 6 childrens.I will take KES. 15 ,000 to buy food for my family because getting a daily meal is inconvenient and therefore I better keep stock of food to enable me plan for the extra amount of money I get from my charcoal business. I will utilize the small money I get from the charcoal business for other needs in the house. The remaining KES 55,000, I will budget to take my daughter to secondary school next year.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is during the evening after my day has gone successful and my family have food to eat- This is the happiest part of my. day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is poverty which made me to suffer from blood pressure.I was diagnosed with a high blood pressure because of thinking on how I can grow my children .The charcoal burning business I rely on makes me feel sick every time and the clinic I attend is far and I cannot afford the weekly doses.
