How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My desires are both finite and attainable. I have sleepless nights and stressful days, trying to figure out how and from where I will provide for my five children. One can only imagine all I have to contend with, being their sole provider. My only dream is to give my children and education to better themselves and in the long run, start a business selling retail goods to people.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly gave me a reason to smile. Imagine me, alone with five kids and a husband whom I have to care for as well, when would I ever have been able to raise enough funds to fix my house? We are now walking on perfect floors and it's all thanks to GiveDirectly. May they continue uplifting other with dignity and all I ask, is that they never stop, nor lack
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
To begin to explain what GiveDirectly transfers have meant to me, is in itself incomprehensible. I lack the words to explain, the sheer impact these funds have made in my life. As a back story, I am a 42 year old, second wife to a stay at home, 85 year old man. The independence and control that these funds gave was life changing. With the funds I was able to buy myself a bed and a mattress, which I would have toiled for ages before acquiring on my own. I'm a casual labourer, going to various construction sites daily and hoping to make KES. 500 when I manage to secure a gig. With that said, part of the funds were quickly diverted towards buying stones and other materials to set up pillars and a cement floor for my house, which were lacking. I snatched up 2 female goats at the market, for both milking and breeding into a flock, in the not so distant future. The rest went to food and fees for my kids. I have 5, all of whom I have been forced, by circumstances, to be the sole bread winner for. The 5 acres on which I grow cassava and maize, couldn't even begin to cater for KES. 4,500 a year I have to pay at Maeba Primary school for the two youngest who are in Class 8 and Grade 4.My other two eldest have both cleared secondary school and the third born class 8, and I am left trying to find a way to give them opportunities in life, while not being financially stable. GiveDirectly have been to us a blessing and I she'd tears when I think of how far they have brought me.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had gone to visit my sister in-law who had been admitted after giving birth far away from home. When I received the transfers, I didn't tell anyone and and I had to wait to go back home so that I couldn't send my daughter to withdraw the transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My kids are able to sleep well compered to previously when they used to sleep on some clothing on the floor and wake up complaining of back pains.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had see people in my village struggle to get big cooking pots especially during ceremonies. I had seen that as a business opportunity but I couldn't afford to buy some so that people can hire from me whenever they had functions. When I was enrolled in the program, my first goal was to buy a cooking pot. I spend 4850 KES to a cooking pot and 9000 KES to buy bed and mattress for my kids who were sleeping on old clothes. I'm planning to spend the balance to secure birth certificate for my kids, pay school school fees and cater for other basic needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy a dairy cow at KES 40,000. I have been struggling to have capacity to own one but my struggles have been to vain. The milk it will be producing I will use some for family consumption and sell the rest and the profits realized I will use them to cater for daily family expenses.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My child dropped from college and had to make hustles to make two ends meet. Fortunately,he got a job and built for me a house. I am really happy and grateful may God keep blessing my child as I can now sleep in a good house.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I was married as a second wife and my husband is now too old and jobless. As a second wife I am now given all the responsibilities of the family. My job is to wash clothes at Ganze town and at times I go some days without getting people to wash clothes for them and the money I get is not enough to sustain my family.
