How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am a form four leaver, though I am not satisfied with my level of education, my goal is for me to upgrade my education, this would enable me to pursue a career of my choice, at the moment I am unable to reach the goal due to financial constraints but I am hopeful that with the goat rearing project, I would be able to earn an income that would enable me to join to join an institution of higher learning in future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The support from GiveDirectly is immense, it has uplifted the livelihood of the communities in my region, my village being among them, I count myself blessed to be among the beneficiaries of the project, it is my prayer that the organization should continue supporting the less privileged in the society. I am therefore grateful for the support. I have not seen anything that was not done perfectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had started constructing a decent house but unfortunately, I was unable to do the completion because I ran out of funds, thus it was left halfway, the transfer came as a relief to my life, in that I used KES 30,000 in completing the house, I then bought two goats at KES 6000 and Hen at KES 3000, in addition to that I paid the school fees arrears of my two children worth KES 10,000, Finally, I bought foodstuffs with the remaining part of the money, words cannot express the immense joy that I have for having accomplished a goal that I've had for such a long time, thus I am forever grateful for the support.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The wait was worthwhile after enrolling in the program. A message finally came in right at the time when I was expecting it. I was working that morning on my piece of farm and had left my phone to charge in the house as its battery was running low when I left. The first message that popped up when I turned on my cellphone was a Mpesa confirmation message. I was so excited that I had to get off the seat and move out to just catch fresh air. I was thankful knowing that the plans I had were finally starting. I didn't bother trying to withdraw immediately but visited the nearest shopping center after three days to withdraw.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the complete construction of my new kitchen. After a long struggle to obtain enough construction materials that could have completed the construction, I am glad that GiveDirectly came in to support my dream of using a modern kitchen that does not leak on the roof like the previous one I had been using. This will not only be providing a decent kitchen space but also create extra space for my growing family as it has an extra room that can provide bed space.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Construction of a new kitchen after demolishing the old one that had started leaking on the roof due to the rotting bundles of thatch got me struggling to raise more finances to aid its completion. Receiving the first transfer came in handy since the construction had taken quite a longer time than I expected. I spent KES 30000 on obtaining more timber that completed the walls, roofing, and also doors, and windows and later paid the labor charges. I also had some arrears for my kid currently in a private school and had to clear it with KES 7000 out of the remaining amount. I obtained two sacks of maize at KES3500 each, clothes for all the four family members at KES5000, and saved the remaining to sort other household requirements. I am grateful this far and hoping that the second transfer will enable me to start and complete other new projects.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We've been building our homestead since last year. Our house is almost finished but our kitchen is not cemented and the roofing is done delicately because the capital we had for construction of both was not enough. We had hoped to complete it so that it can act as a guest room whenever we have guests since it's spacious. For completion of the kitchen we'll need about KES 40,000 for building materials such as iron sheets, cement and sand. The remaining transfer will be used to buy a dairy cow and pay school fees for our child.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up healthy to do all chores. I always prepare my son to go to school in the morning and seeing him healthy to face another day makes me quite happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we face as a family is financial constraints, my husband works as a police officer with a salary of about KES 30,000 which we depend on to sustain all our needs. This has made it difficult to have a nice kitchen, pay school fees or even buy livestock that can be used as future investment for the family.
