Having bought a dairy cow and goats from my first and second transfer, my concentration is to now make merry go round contributions in groups that will enable me pay school fees in time for my children. I have two children in secondary school and two others that will join soon and I am prioritising paying their school fees and making sure that they are in school all year round with the hope that they will post good results. That is my new goal at the moment.

In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by purposing to get honest feedback from everyone that had the potential to be enrolled in our village. This enabled the officers to enroll the right people within our village and almost everyone that deserved got the transfer. I did not find anything that I thought GiveDirectly did no do very well. To me everything that they did was perfect.

I used KES 48000 to buy a dairy cow and used another KES 4800 to buy a goat. The decision to invest the money on livestock was so that I could be able to give a helping hand to my husband who works as a business man in paying school fees for our children . Initially I had one dairy cow that was helping me a lot but it succumbed to some illness and that is when I realized how important it was to us as a family. The dairy cow that I recently bought produces 9 litres of milk per day. We consume 4 litres locally at home and sell the remaining 5 litres which earns us KES 300 per day. The money that I get from the sale of milk is very useful in meeting other familys needs but on top of our priority list is accumulating the money to pay school fees for our children. I am happy that I now support my husband who would have had to carry this burden a lone and we are very grateful to GiveDirectly for making our lives better.

It was around 9:30 pm and we were not yet asleep since we were eagerly waiting for the transfer. We had heard some people in the neighborhood saying that they had received the transfers and so we kept on waiting anxiously with the hope that we will also get them before the day ends. Suddenly, as we were still relaxing at the sitting room, my phone rang. I decided to check it and I could not believe my eyes when I saw that it was the long-awaited SMS saying that we had received the promised KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. We were so happy on having received such a huge sum of money and we thanked God for it. We went to our beds with so much joy as we knew that the transfer was going to change our lives for the better.

The transfer has brought a very big difference in my life and that of my family. This is because with the water tank that we bought, we have been able to collect some rain water. We now have access to clean water and we no longer make long trips to the river to fetch water. We also no longer incur the cost of buying water.

We spent most of the transfer money on buying a water tank and the gutters. We bought a 5000-litre water tank at KES 33000. This is what we had always desired to have for a long time but due to lack of money we haven't been able to buy one. This is because we usually make long trips to the river to fetch water. I work at a nearby secondary school and sometimes due to the nature of my job, I at times arrive home late and I do not get time to go to the river. I hence have to buy water which is enough for the day at KES 100. So when GiveDitectly gave us the promised transfer, we decided to use it in buying the tank that we had always wanted to have. This way we will be able to collect rain water and we will no longer have to go to the river all the days. Apart from the tank, we also bought gutters at KES 7000 and some materials such as four bags of cement and gravel for constructing the surface for placing the tank. With the remaining amount of money, we used it in buying six chickens at KES 300 per chicken. This was only possible due to the help from GiveDirectly and hence we are so much grateful to them.
