How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I received my initial transfer, I chose to spend it on acquiring a parcel of land. I am so happy to have owned it for a short period. My next goal is for me to be able to build a house, I don't have money at the moment but I am trusting God for away to open.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done amazing work in impacting our lives. We all received the unrestricted cash just the way they had promised us. Our locality is a semi-arid area thus it is less productive, therefore we are grateful for the support that empowered us financially. So far I have not witnessed any inefficiencies in what the organization is doing.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a businesswoman specializing in selling vegetables and fruits and I am a mother of three children. Upon receiving my second transfer, I thought of purchasing a dairy cow worth KES 26,000 to cut down on the cost of buying milk. I am so relieved that I would no longer be spending money on expensive milk daily. Secondly, I bought foodstuffs and clothes for my family. It was hard to attain all of these due to financial constraints as a result of the high cost of living. I am grateful for the support that lifted my life tremendously.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in the field looking after my friend's animals, when I heard my phone ringing, on checking, I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, it was the happiest day in my life, and the words alone cannot explain how happy I was, I immediately rushed home and informed my mother, I then embarked on planning on how I would spend my money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Being a single mother is not an easy task, you get to carry all the responsibilities single-handedly, I don't have a reliable source of income thus making things more challenging, but I am happy that I was able to purchase a dairy cow which brought forth enough milk for our daily consumption, My heart is at peace now, knowing that I have accumulated building materials readily waiting for the second transfer so that I could commence constructing a decent home. I am so grateful for the significant milestone in my life courtesy of the organization.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a local businesswoman in the village, where I engage myself in selling vegetables, I am a single mother of four children, when I was promised the unconditional transfer I thought of purchasing a dairy cow so that I would own a cow, I knew that this would help me in cutting down the cost of buying milk daily, thus I used KES 25,000, in addition to that I also bought building material worth KES 16,500 so that I would be able to construct a decent house once I receive my transfer, lastly I bought foodstuffs with the remaining part of the money. I am relieved that I have been able to accomplish so much in a short time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a mother of three children, and we separated with my husband about 5 years ago. I have since been solely taking care of my children and ensuring that there daily needs are taken care of. Currently I don't have any income and its through the well wishers that we can afford a meal. This situations is worsening but then its a big relief to me and my children that we shall receive this transfers from Give directly. With my small farm,I intend to unleash my ambition of poultry farming. The chicken coop will cost KES. 40000,200 one day old chicks at KES.20000. The remaining amount will cater for food and clothing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last 2 months, my sister who works in Bomet brought us a bag of maize. This has really helped us a lot and my children were so enthusiastic about it. We have been able to afford a meal during this time.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Currently my major challenge is lack of an income. I would like to be self dependent since my children are now looking at me to provide for them. I sometimes feel inferior when I cannot meet there needs. It has been a prayer to me that I start a business that will be an income generating in our family.
