How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better and spacious house. I live in a small grass thatched house which is leaking from inside. I depend on small scale farming and casual jobs in the village to earn an income. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of the family. I rarely save some money to buy building materials. I had always wished to own a better house. We are being exposed to cold during the rainy season. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to buy building materials and build a better house. The construction is on going, it's almost done. We will be happy to move in to a better house with my family. We will no longer be exposed to cold. Whenever I have visitors I will not shy off to welcome them like before. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and given me hope to still strive for greatness.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to build a better and spacious house. I live in a small grass thatched house which is leaking from inside. The construction is on going, I will be so happy to move to a better house where I will no longer exposed to cold. I still have some money and I am planing to buy sofa set seats for the new house, water tank for storing water for domestic use and food for the family. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought building materials ready to build a better house. We live in a small grass thatched house which is leaking from inside. My children are exposed to cold during the rainy season. I was so worried because I didn't know what to do. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had a continuous source of income. I also didn't had any savings to enable me buy the iron sheets. When I received the transfer I bought all the materials needed to build a better house. I am yet to start soon, I will relocate immediately to the new house when it's done. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be much better than before. It has given us hope to continue achieving our dreams.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been aspiring to start poultry farming where I will be selling eggs and earn income. I am planning to use 15000 shillings of my transfer on purchasing building materials and some birds to start off the project. On the other hand, I am planning to go for medication. I had fell down and injured my right leg, something that has been stressing me for a while because I struggle when walking. Am now assured that once I receive this transfer I will get medication and income in the future since I am aged.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since I am a house wife and the sole breadwinner for my family, I usually handle tiresome farming jobs in my vicinity. Accordingly, the happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am taking a rest to restore energy in anticipation of the next day's tasks.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is having an ailing leg yet my family awaits me to handle demanding casual jobs within my village for a living. After all the struggles and perseverance, I normally get anout Sh 200 in a day, an amount that is not enough to cater for our basic needs and medical.
