Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt a great happiness when I received the money because I had so many needs and desires I wanted to achieve but did not have the financial muscle to do that. So, I was very happy to get that kind of assistance. I am ever so grateful to GiveDirectly
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is the fact before, I used to lack a lot of things including the basic ones. Right now, however, I have been able to get most of the things I could only wish and desire to have, especially, clothes, food, and livestock. I was able to fix and address most of the pressing challenges I was facing and I am so grateful, thanks To GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer in settling our house loan because we needed a house and did not have the finances to get one, so we took a KES20000 from local Savings and Credit Sacco to build the house. Therefore, we took a similar amount from my GiveDirectly transfer to settle the loan. I am now a proud homeowner since we live in a better house compared to the makeshift house we used to live in before, which could hardly shield us and our house items. I also spent KES16000 to buy four goats and three sheep because that is an investment that I will always depend on to address the challenges that I will face in the future.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Goat rearing is something that I had started but could not continue well due to financial problems. It does well compared to dairy farming given the dry climatic conditions in this area. Receiving this money will therefore help me add 5 more goats to the little that I have. My budget is approximately 20,000 Kenya Shillings. When I sell the goats after they multiply, they will help me cater for other needs especially school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a house wife. I do my house chores in the early morning hours. By afternoon, I am usually free. This is the happiest part of my day. I take time to chat with friends and relatives.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of enough money to satisfy the family's needs is my biggest hardship. My home is polygamous. I am the first wife with 5 children and my co wife has 4 children. We mainly depend on our husband who hawks water in town. The little he gets is not enough to cater for all the needs we have here at home. I involve myself in farming here at home but the dry climatic conditions here are not favorable for farming. Food security is the main challenge of all my needs.
