How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that I now have a stable source of income that I will depend on in future to pay school fee for my children, I will not bother anyone to support me paying school fee for my children. For that reason I am sure of educating my children to the whatever level they would want to be. I am also able to take care of my family needs comfortably with the money I received from my tomatoe farming, I no longer depend on my spouse fully for everything.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly did very good think by training people before starting the the enrolment because this has helped people understand the program and even spending the money they got wisely. Not involving the government in their program was the wisest think they did because it could have attracted corruption.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the whole of the transfer to start livestock farming where by I bought five goats and started goat rearing. I thought of starting livestock farming it was a way of saving money and the same time making it grow, this is because have so many children who are still in lower classes and I know very soon they will be joining secondary schools where I will need to part with a lot of money while to pay school fee and yet I do not have a stable source of income. I will be able to sell the goats once they have matured at a higher price and spend the money to pay their school fee. I will not bother relatives and friends to give me support to pay for their school fee. I spent the transfer to lease one hectares of land where I have planted tomatoes in a large scale. This has been my dream but I could not achieve it because of lack of money. So also hired an oxen plough that tilled the whole farm being that it was too big that I was not able to caltivate it using my hand. I am very grateful to give directly for helping me achieve my dream of longing to plant tomatoes in large scale. I have managed to get enough produce that out of the farm and sold them to the community and got enough money that I have used to improve my cattle keeping by add more heads of goat and pay school fee for my children.
