Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was a beautiful morning when I received $200 from GiveDirectly. I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness because I knew this money would help lighten the burdens I currently faced. I immediately shared the good news with my husband, and we both felt a wave of relief. The first thought that came to my mind was to use the money to pay the school fees for my children, who had been sent home due to unpaid fees. Knowing that I could help them return to school filled me with hope and gratitude. This support from GiveDirectly has truly made a difference in our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life since receiving the $200 from GiveDirectly is the joy and relief it has brought to my family. Before this support, I was overwhelmed by the stress of not being able to pay my children's school fees, which led to them being sent home. Knowing that I could now use this money to get them back to school has filled me with hope and a sense of purpose. This financial assistance has not only eased my worries but has also allowed my children to continue their education, which is something I deeply value. I am incredibly grateful for GiveDirectly's help, as it has transformed our situation and brought a new sense of stability to our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving $200 from GiveDirectly, I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness. I quickly decided to change my plans, as I had not anticipated that two of my children would be sent home due to a lack of school fees. Thanks to GiveDirectly's unconditional transfer, I was able to adjust my priorities. I used $140 to pay their school fees, which had been a source of stress for me because I didn't want to see my kids at home while others continued their education. Additionally, I spent $40 to buy food, as finding enough to eat in our area is a challenge. With this money, I was finally able to provide for my family's needs, ensuring we have food on the table.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving the cash transfers means so much to me and my family since it will help us ease the burden we have and also will transform our life's positively. Firstly, we plan to use the first KES 20000 of the cash transfers to purchase food, clothing and pay for our 3 children's school fees. We plan to use KES 10000 to pay school fees and the remaining we will spend on food, clothing and other household goods. For the second cash transfer we intend to use KES 10000 on our farm, we also plan to use the remaining KES 35000 to purchase 4 goats at KES 5000 each and food for our family. For the third cash transfer, we intend to pay school fees for our children and also purchase food for our family. We intend to spend about KES 30000 on school fees and the remaining we shall spend on food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My family's wellbeing is the aspect that is pleasant in my life and always brings me joy. Since this year began no one in our family has fallen sick, which is a great thing that brings me joy always.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I'm facing a lot of challenges currently including a lack of money to sustain my household and pay school fees for my four children. Nonetheless, the challenge that is most pressing is the flooding that recently hit our village. The flood water destroyed our farmland and crops which has affected our food supply and also money since we intended to sell the produce from the farm. We are now feeling the impact of the floods since we don't currently have hope of getting money to pay for our children's schools fees.
