How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a house for my son. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had saving I could have build a house for him. He used to spend night at the neighbor's house. This was so challenging because he could walk during the night after taking supper. Whenever there was rainy he was being exposed to cold. Currently he has a house and he's so happy. He does his assignments without being disturbed. He has privacy and his belongings are safe. I am so grateful and now my mind is settled. I was so stress up before whenever it rains and my son had to walk for that Long. Thanks so much GiveDirectly for this immense support. It has changed our living standard.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a house for my son, I also bought sofa set seats, paid school fees for my children in various schools and the rest of the money I bought food.

I woke up at around seven that fruitful morning. While trying to check out if GD send us money we were eargerly waiting for is when I saw the SMS and I was overwhelmed with joy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is owning a dairy cow. This has relieved me of milk purchasing costs and from milk which was sometimes quite unreliable. From the milk produced, nowadays I have income which helps to cater for household expenditure. There is also additional stock for my beans business which had stalled. The income enables me to invest in merry go round monthly contribution hence payment of school fees for my kids.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 35000 on a dairy cow because I didn't have one before.I used to buy three litres at cost of KES 150 daily but now I'm stress free because I can now sell my own milk. I also spent KES 2000 on ten chicken layers as a source of income for my family especially when it comes to household expenditure. I also spent KES 1000 on additional stock for my beans business. I also spent KES 10,000 on four maize sacks because there maize scarcity in our place due to long drought spells in our area. I also spent KES 1500 on tractor for hire. I also spent KES 3000 on clothing for my family because initially I used to buy second hand clothes and now my kid's are very neat.
