My new goal for this year is to set up my own tailoring business since that is my passion. This combined with what my husband makes from his small casual jobs will be able to cater to the family’s basic needs with much ease.

This initiative gave a new face to every household and more so the whole village. We were given a chance to listen and decide on how to spend the transfer independently without being coerced. I can't see anything to complain about, but to just encourage GiveDirectly to keep supporting other villages as well.

With my family of two, fetching enough water every day from the river which is far away from our village has been so hard. This had been my responsibility as my children are still schooling and only come home late in the evening. Ensuring that I avail enough water to enhance their cleanliness and also for home use has been a struggle. Upon receiving the second transfer, we agreed with my husband to install tap water in our home. Buying all the materials needed and having it fixed cost us $300. I also cleared school fees for my children who had been sent home due to arrears which had accumulated to $150. Our house needed a few repairs, thus we had it sorted out for $50. With the remaining amount of $30, I obtained foodstuff for my household.

I was doing house chores, being alone in the compound, I had to shut down all the doors as I was doing the laundry behind the kitchen. Immediately I finished, I went to see a friend at a neighbourhood, from there I found them celebrating and dancing to the praise worship. Upon asking them what the celebration was, one of them told me to bring my phone with me before they disclosed the information. It was about the transfers, it was a very happy morning receiving a very huge amount from a well wisher not known by so many of us in the community.

I had been paying school fees in installments as I was not in a position to pay it fully, my daughter's performance had been dropping drastically as most of the times She was in and out of the classroom. Having cleared the school fees gives me the peace of mind as I am very hopeful for a better results come end of this term.

I have had a house not in good shape, and for a moment, I thought it would collapse anytime it rained. The Give Directly transfers was of a blessing, I used Kshs 40,000 of the transfers to build a very modern three bedroom house. My kids nolonger sleep at a friend's place and this has enhanced good parenting to them being that we all sleep in the same compound. I had debts in school, and managed to clear school fees for Kshs 10,000, my daughter is now in school full time attending classes, I am looking forward to good performance towards the end of this term. Getting food has been a challenge, I used the balance of Kshs 5,000 to stock cereals, hoping to use this till next months transfers.
