How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Even though I am a business woman, I had been living in a mud-wall house since I couldn't afford to renovate or build permanent house. My children education and daily household needs had been my priorities among my family needs thus I was just forced to live in my mud-wall house and frequently smear it to reduce the dust and prevent cracks. I was so tired with the habit but had nothing to do. The biggest difference in my daily life is being able to renovate my house. I currently live under a plastered house, well cemented and it looks decent. I feel relaxed and so happy with such a decent house that I couldn't have done if it was not for GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has done an amazing job. We currently have decent iron roofed houses, different assets and started different businesses. I feel GD has empowered us to support our families. I don't see anything wrong done by GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used KES43000 of my second transfer on my house extension. I made this decision since I had started with the first transfer but wasn't able to complete. I am glad I current have spacious decent house. I used the remaining amount on my household daily basic needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I now live in a good-looking house that I never thought possible. Things are tough for us and getting cash is not easy, not to mention the huge amounts as GiveDirectly sent us. It was the first time in my life to receive such an amount of cash. Thank you for the funds.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was happy to receive the transfer. We had confidence that the funds will come. We believed it when Gd officers told us we will be sent the funds and for sure we received it.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the first transfer from GiveDirectly to renovate our house. We bought cement, sand and paid labor for the work. We managed to finish the walls yet to plaster the floor. We had built it earlier as an earthen one but have now renovated it to a better look.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means alot to me. I will use the money to improve my farming as a subsistence farmer.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when we wake up in good health as a family. This gives us strength to carry on with our daily activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We usually fully depend on farming as a family but due to drought, my crops have not yielded hence this means poor harvest. With this, i have experienced difficulty in paying school fees for my children as well as providing adequately for them. This is the biggest hardship i have faced.
