What did you spend your third transfer on?
I had school fees arrears that were really pushing me to the wall and therefore when I received my third transfer, the first thing was to clear the arrears with 5000 KES, and completed the construction of my 32 iron-roofed house.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because, I have moved from a leaky grass-thatched house to an iron-roofed one where we live more comfortably. My former house could leak on us and even make us catch cold. Again, I am happy that I am able to raise school fees for my children as opposed to before when it was one of the biggest challenge I could experience.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What Give Directly does well is sending us money in lumpsum which ensures that we don't misuse it but I would urge it increases this amount by adding us more money-what we were given was never enough.

What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I built a semi-permanent house of 38 iron sheets. I decided to construct the house since my former one was just pathetic-it was leaky and equally looked awkward-that pathetic!
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Initially, I lived in leaky house. During rainy seasons, my problems would even multiply and increase including frequent cases of malaria and cold outbreak. However currently, I live in a better house and environment where we sleep warmly and wake up warmly.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent most of my first transfer to pay school fees for my child who is in high school in order for him not to be sent home for school fees. I also bought a goat as I did not have any livestock in my compound.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received the money, I was very happy and could not believe it until I withdrew the money from an Mpesa agent.

What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
What I plan to do is to add some building materials like ironssheet to the ones I already bought so that I can build an ironed roofed house because my current house is thatched and it leaks alot, maintaining it is also difficult since there is scarcity of grass nowdays. The rest I will use in paying school fees for my daughter who is in form two.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
Through my hard work,I have managed to educated my daughter upto form two. That makes me proud.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is raising school fees for my daughter in form two since I do not have any stable income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the afternoon when I get customers to buy from my "mandazi" business.
