What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the second transfers to pay people who were moulding bricks for me as I want to build a new house. When I received the first transfers, I bought cement and iron sheets which I kept so that once I mould the bricks I should start building the house. I have also kept some money to pay people who will build the house for me.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly do well by giving me advise on how to spend the transfers. Before I received the money, they advised me not to use the money on things like beer but for the money to be used on things which can benefit the family like building houses or starting business. I was also advised that the money is not for me as the husband who is the recipient but it's for the family. In my case, I had to plan together with my wife to spend the money on building the house. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong done by GiveDirectly.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life would have been very different had I not received the transfers. I would not have managed to build a house. Here in the village we depend on farming but these days that is not giving us any hope of achieving anything we want as our crops are being bought at lower prices. ADMARC buy a bag of maize at 7000 which means you need to sell a lot of maize for you to find enough money to build a house. All in all, my life has changed for the better because of your financial support as I have built myself a good looking house for myself, my wife and my two children.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I was once involved in a motorbike accident which left me unable to ride again for three months. This affected my livelihood as I am the only breadwinner in my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy in the afternoon. This is the time I rest from farm work and also play in the local football team.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am looking forward to using the money and do business which will generate income for this household. Accessing loans is one of the challenges we youths face, hence this money has come at the right opportunity. The other money will go towards buying livestock especially goats and also build a house on my wife's side in her home village.
