How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Boosting my business would be the greatest thing that I would wish to achieve, but the biggest hindrance is financing. To achieve this dream, I plan to save the money that I would earn from selling the farm produce in boosting it. I am grateful for the significant milestone that we achieved within a short period.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The support from GiveDirectly has uplifted our living standards tremendously. My children are all comfortable studying in school because of the support that we got. It is evident all over the village that the aid elevated our living standards. So far, I have not seen anything that the organization needs to improve on, instead, we are grateful for the tremendous support that they gave us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Raising school fees for my children has been an uphill task because I have six children, of which four of them are in school. I am a consistent farmer and a shopkeeper while my house works at the post office. My husband and I agreed on using our second transfer on school fees since it was the most pressing need that we had. Hence, upon receiving our second transfer, we used $500 to pay for our children's schools fee. We are relieved knowing that our children can comfortably concentrate on their books without being sent home to collect school fees. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. Words cannot express the immense joy that I felt knowing that receiving the aid has uplifted my life.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7 a.m. while milking the cow that's when I heard a message alert on my phone. On checking, I had received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I was very happy and relayed the good news to my husband who was preparing to go to work. He was excited and after work we planned for the money and withdrew the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest distinction in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is the clearance of this year's school fees. This was a major challenge for me but GiveDirectly has made it possible. As a result, it has prevented me from selling a dairy cow. Secondly, the transfers have enabled revive my clothes business which was sinking right before my eyes. As a result, I am making profits instead of losses as before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am ready-made clothes dealer for the past five years and am a mother of six. From this, I get an income for both household consumption and school fees. Additionally, I normally rely on dairy farming and small-scale crop farming. When I received my transfers my clothing business had sunk due to school fees burdens. I, therefore, spent KES 30,000 on increasing the stock of my clothing business. As a result, I now have a stock of KES 55,000 from the normal KES 30,000. And now I a make a profit of KES 1,500 from KES 1,000. Secondly, I spent KES 20,000 on payment of school fees for my kids in high school. As a result, I am relieved of school fees payment till the end of this year. The rest of KES 5,000 I spent on the purchase of uniforms, home clothing, and food for my kids.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Having school going children in my household, receiving this money will mean alot to my family. Iam planning on spending KES 20,000 to clear school fees balance for my 4 children, I will also purchase a dairy cow with KES 35,000 which will add a source of income to our family since we depend on dairy farming. This will enable me restart my second hand clothes business which I had to shut down due to school fees balance.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son graduating from the University with a degree in education has been my biggest joy. This has reduced burden in paying his school fees hence to focus on the other children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of school fees is the biggest challenge I'm facing. Having 4 school going children in both secondary and primary level has made me use all the income I had from my second hand clothes business which I had to shut down because I had to use all the income to gather for their school needs.
