How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have a new goal which is to start a kiosk business in the village since they are just two in my region. To add to that, it has been quite tough raising a family of seven without a reliable job. I am therefore hopeful that this business will empower me to generate an income whereby I will be able to fend my family with ease.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDiectly did well by offering help in form of cash. This makes the organization so unique since it has never happened in my life. Through that, I was able to purchase all my heart desires since I had all the freedom. I, therefore, do not see any part that GiveDirectly needs to change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a huge portion of my second transfer on buying a pair of oxen at a total of KES 50000. I settled in buying them because they are normally considered the greatest assets and highly valued in our community. Through them, I will be able to prepare my piece of land in good time and will also be able to plough all my three acres at a go. Previously, I used to hire those of my friends, and sometimes I couldn't afford and I was forced to use my own hands in which was tiresome and I was not able to utilize my whole farm resulting in low yields. With the remaining amount of money, I cleared the fees arrears for my son who is in secondary school. I am happy he is no longer being sent home regularly like before.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in my house preparing breakfast for my family when I received the Mpesa message on my phone. I could not believe my eyes after seeing that I had received my transfer. I called my son to confirm the message and indeed, I had received my transfer. I felt very happy and relieved since that transfer would change our lives for the better.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am living a happy life. Currently, I am able to meet the needs of my family without much sweating. The motorbike business I started with the help the transfer a daily income that helps me to feed and educate my children. Previously, my children were always sent home due to school fees because I lacked a reliable source of income to support their educational needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It is always the joy of every parent seeing their kids prosper in life. My case was different after my elder child dropped out of school due to unavoidable circumstances. He was struggling due to lack of a reliable job something that bothers me as a parent. After receiving the transfer, we decided to empower him by starting a motorbike taxi business for him since he knew how to ride a motorbike. I spent KES 40,000 to purchase a second-hand motorbike that he currently uses to carrying passengers. Currently, I earn KES 250 per day after he paid himself. I use the income from this activity to educate the other 4 children who are still schooling. The remaining amount helped me to start livestock rearing by purchasing one cow for KES 14,000. This is because I had experience in livestock rearing since I had been rising some for our neighbors where I am benefiting from the sale of milk.

What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon. This is because at this time, I am alone at home and therefore, I relux.Unlike in the Morning and evening when I am busy doing house hold chores for the family.
