How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference that I have seen so far is that I have been able to build my own house, something which I have always dreamt about for a long time but making it a reality has never been possible. I addition to that, my kid also joined university very recently, courtesy of the cash transfers that I got from Give Directly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think that the organization does an excellent job at the village level. First of all, the staff members are very approachable people who are able to interact with most of the recipients at the village level. The transfers helped people a lot in changing their lifestyle and economic well being.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the second transfers on buying new iron sheets which I used to build a new house. I initially used to live in my grandmother's house because I could not raise the amount of money needed to build such a house like the one I have today. Apart from that, I also spent a portion of the money to cultivate my four acres piece of land where I planted maize, beans, and tomatoes. I did this project on a large scale and I can say that the harvest was so overwhelming. When I sold part of what I harvested, I was able to raise the total amount of school fees that my child required to join University.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference for me is that I have been able to sort the fees problem of my daughter which had become a headache to me for quite sometime. I know she will now sit for her final year in school come next year without interruptions in between the semesters.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy when I got the cash from the organization because I had been stuck financially for quite a long time but I knew that this was the time to make a change in my life because I know that opportunities only knock once in a lifetime.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the money to pay school fees for my daughter who had fees arrears from the past amounting to around fifty thousand shillings. I have also bought a goats and planted modern water melon seedlings. I also bought iron sheets that I will use to construct a new house for large family.
