How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My biggest dream is that one day, my kids will have a better future thanks to the education their father and I have been able to afford for them. This would ensure that not only they, but also their children, have a better life in the future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is exceptional at restoring hope. We would never have imagined that there was an organization that would assist people without expecting anything in return. GiveDirectly gave us the chance to choose how and when to utilize our funds, and for that we will be eternally grateful. I pray they continue to be a blessing to countless others, as they have been to us as a household.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I'm a teacher by profession at Kietamer Primary School. I teach the little angels in the nursery, earning $160 per month in salary. As for my husband, he works as a driver at the Treasury, earning $500 per month in salary. The funds from GiveDirectly allowed us to finally have some disposable income to help us achieve those things we had kept putting on the back burner due to other responsibilities. As such, I undertook the purchase of a cow. Both for milk and for breeding, it seemed like a good idea! Considering we have a 1 acre farm on which we grow maize, I didn't see the need to buy food, so I chose to cater for the kids' fees with the transfers from GiveDirectly. We have three kids. Our eldest recently graduated from high school and plans to attend university to study nursing. The second born is in class 8 at Sigor Primary Boarding School, for whom we pay $280 per year. The third born is in PP2 at St. Francis Academy, and we pay $50 per term for her tuition. GiveDirectly was a blessing to my partner and me. We finally had the privilege of having more cash than we normally make, allowing us to do so many things that we had previously only dreamed of one day doing.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I had just arrived from school. I was exhausted, so I needed to rest a bit before engaging myself in other household chores. Suddenly I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking I realised that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness. The news was rejuvenating that I forgot that I was tired. I was relieved and happy because I knew that I will be able to pay the school fees for my children.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life today is that I can comfortably sleep like a baby knowing that a heavy burden has been lifted off my back. This is because I was able to settle all the school fees arrears. My children can comfortably study in school without any interference. or the fear of being sent home to collect school fees. I am happy and grateful for the tremendous support that impacted my life amazing.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfer from GiveDirectly came at the right time of need. This is because the schools were opened yet I was still stranded on how my children would pay for their fees. I am a teacher by profession and a mother of three children. I was unable to raise the school fees for my children due to a loan I had from my employer. Therefore the transfer came as a big relief in my life, where I used KES 30,000 on school fees. I then KES 18,000 in buying a dairy cow to reduce the cost of buying milk daily. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I am happy and relieved that my children are all settled in their respective institutions.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a boost in my income. I am a teacher but I work on a casual basis at a nearby primary school. Since I am the breadwinner, the income I get is not enough to cater to my family's needs such as school fees for my children. I am happy because these transfers will see me start a clothes business. This will cost me KES 50,000 for purchasing stock and KES 10,000 to lease a shop. I am excited as I project to earn an extra KES 10,000 which will greatly boost my income enabling me to take my children to school comfortably. For the rest of the transfers, I will use to pay school fees for my daughter who is to join the university in three months time.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Sometime last year in December my only dairy cow calved and it gave me an edge in milk productivity and for household consumption. It produces 4 liters per day which I sell at a cost of KES 50 per liter.I am so elated that I now get disposable income for use and we now have a better life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am looking after three orphaned children since my sister passed on three months ago. This has been a challenge as raising their school fees and meeting their basic needs is difficult. With the KES 15,000 I earn every month, I lack to provide sufficient food for them. I would want them to live a better life which is only possible with a better and stable income.
