When I received the money, I didn’t have other additional goals apart from the ones that I had already planned after the sensitization meeting we had with the GiveDirectly officers who came to our village. My plans were finalize in buying goats as I wanted to invest in them knowing that in the near future they will be a source of income to my family.

In my honest opinion, this organization has done wonders. This unconditional transfer project has outdone so many projects that were introduced by other organizations. GiveDirectly has no fault; it’s an honest organization which fulfills its promises unlike other organizations which I have seen.

When I withdrew the second transfer money, I bought 5 Gala goats for KES 22500.00 to add to the ones that I had already buy from the 1st transfer. I also paid KES 6000.00 school fees for my four children who had previous balances to pay in the school. Thereafter, I bought a bed and a mattress for KES 10000.00 and kept the remaining amount for the family upkeep.

While relaxing at home, I received a message notification at 9 am. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my phone and saw that I had received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I was so grateful especially because I now could settle the many debts I had accumulated.

It's wonderful how less difficult my life has become since receiving this transfer. Before, I was under a lot of stress. My dream of educating my six children seemed to be slipping away. Due to financial instability, I had accumulated numerous debts in school fees. Often, my children would be sent home for lack of fees. This broke my heart as I want my children to build good lives for themselves, through quality education. All this has changed because of the cash transfer I received. I settled all the debts and paid school fees for my children. Now they can stay in school and learn. I also bought enough food for the family. I can breathe easy now. I'm so thankful to GD.

One of my biggest aspirations as a mother is to raise well-educated children. I am hopeful that this will enable them to build better lives than I can offer them. Often, this has seemed like a pipe dream. Due to a lack of money, I had accumulated many debts in school fees. So I spent KES 20,000 on settling debts and paying fees for the new term, for my six children. I also spent KES 22,500 on the acquisition of five goats. These will provide our household with milk when the rainy season starts. We can then save on the KES 70 that we spend on buying milk every day. Finally, I spent KES 10,000 on food. KES 6,000 was spent on settling accumulated debts while KES 4,000 was used to buy foodstuff including maize, beans and rice to ensure we had enough for the family.
