What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge we have in my family is the poverty. My husband and I do not have enough land because many times we go to farm for other people. Even though we get casual jobs sometimes, the money we get from there is not enough to feed my family of 8 children. We are paid less than $1 per day which is still low considering how things are now expensive. In addition to that, our families support us by giving us some land to use and in some cases we share the harvest or we rent a small land of $6 per year.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When we get the money to feed our children, we always happy. I remember there was a time we were in bad life, getting food was not easy. We have a child who travelled to Bugesera district in Eastern province to look for a job, he works as a house maid and farming at the same time. He knows how we live, and he visited us on Christmas time. He bought food for us and we celebrated the New Year of 2023 together. As parents, we were grateful that our child is mature and cares about his family.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
We always need fertiliser to use in the farms, we will buy a cow of $300. We will also buy a pig of $50 which can give birth to 4-5 pigs at ago. Not forgetting about our health, we will buy health insurance of $30 for the whole family. As our government always mobilize us to live in a good place by having lights. We took solar energy on credit of $57, we will pay that as well. These days the season of farming was affected by too much rain which resulted into not harvesting as usual, we will buy foods of $50. We have 6 children who attend classes at school, we will pay their school fees of $125 for all per year. The remaining amount, we will put them in the saving group to use them in the future.
