How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Poultry farming has always sustained most of my family needs.I have a chicken coop and I breed. chicks and sell to any neighbors who need. I have a new goal of starting a general shop in a nearby shopping center hence will operate it during the evening hours.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly did well by giving lumpsum of money and giving everyone the freedom to choose on how to spend depending on their needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The second transfer came at the time I needed most. I had pending projects. With Kshs. 31,000 I used in purchasing materials that were pending for construction. I am now happy that we already finished and moved in to the house and enjoying. With Ksh. 4,000 I spent in purchasing furniture to make my house neat. I also bought five sheep at a cost of Kshs. 20,000 I can sell them in future to cater for emergencies.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy, I remember it was around 9am when I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I was at the farm that time. I reluctantly check it thinking it was just a usually messages from friends. I couldn't believe my eyes, I have never received such amount of money before. I stopped whatever I was doing and rushed home to inform my family. We all celebrated with joy. It was the happiest day of our lives. We planned everything and I went to withdrew the money the same day from the Mpesa agent.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have build two better houses. We used to live in a small house which could not host all the family comfortably. It was so stressful and very demoralizing whenever we had visitors. We could host them outside the house because there was no extra space. We could cook in the same house and sleep in the same house with our children. I depend on small scale farming, I pant maize and beans. The harvest that we get through this is so small. We had no other source of income to buy the building material. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly we decided to build a better and spacious house. Currently we no longer get stress up on where to host visitors and our family has a good space go sleep. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the money I received from GiveDirectly on building two houses. We used to live in a small house before which could not host all the family comfortably. It was so small and whenever I had visitors it was so stressful because there was no extra space to host them. The rest of the money I bought food for the family. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be much better than before.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have one small house and whenever I have visitors its hard to cook in their presence since it get Smoky making them uncomfortable. I wish to build another house which will cost me around 400 dollars. I also want to invest in sheep rearing. A Sheep can give birth up to three times in a year thus they can increase easily. One sheep cost 25 dollars and i need ten of them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is the time I am grateful to be alive and motivates me to work harder for my family to ensure they get something to eat.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship is financial constraints. The little money i get from casual jobs can only feed my family and sometimes it's even hard to find one. I have always wished to make investment so as to generate more income.
