How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better in many ways since I started a taxi business. I receive a payment of my earnings every weekend and this being a regular income, is the best thing that has ever happened. I also can start a poultry keeping initiative because of the availability of money go buy the chicken needed and to feed them. I will use the savings from my taxi business to live a better life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well to start off many businesses in my village. I know so many people who he no income opportunities but are now having motorcycle taxi business or running shops.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the money I received on buying a tuk-tuk. I needed to establish a transport business. The tuk-tuk operated in the Mombasa city is a small car that heroes people and goods to different parts. I receive income once every week from the driver. I save this amount in order to use it in starting a poultry keeping business.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 am when I was taking my children to school then I heard my phone vibrating continuously. That was a clear indication that there was a new message. Without wasting time, I decided to check the content of the message. I felt wow! after realizing it was an mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was so sure I will achieve most of my goals.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The fact that I will be owning a tuk-tuk I feel it will bring the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because my spouse has been employed for a couple of years from neighbors and whatever he was earning was too little. We used to strain in meeting the family's basic needs including schooling and their daily meals. We used to borrow foodstuffs from friends like every day and it was very embarrassing. I am now so hopeful that in the next few months, we will settle everything down. This is because whatever my spouse will be earning from the tuk-tuk business will all be ours. I also hope I will no longer strain in paying school fees for my children and also providing their daily meals. I am so grateful to be among the beneficiaries.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am planning to spent part of my first transfer on buying a second-hand tuk-tuk. I am planning to purchase it because My spouse has been employed for years from neighbors and he was being paid on commission. The little he could get, he had to give a certain percentage to the owner. This made our lives to be poor because we have some basic needs to meet for our children. We could sometimes even starve because my spouse and I could not afford it. Our children were also being sent home every now and then for fees and due to the low financial status, they could stay even for weeks. In addition to that I am planning to buy some chicken and will start a business selling the young once ones they mature. This will boost our living standards because at least I will be having something to depend on. The little amount of money that remained, I bought some foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest desire has been to have a sustainable source of income. I intend to start a poultry business that will earn us an additional income using the first transfers. For the second transfers, I will use it to repair the leaking roof of our house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of the day. This is the moment that am most relaxed having accomplished the day's activities -mostly household chores and farm work. At the moment, we are harvesting maize.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of sufficient finances has been the biggest hardship in life. Over-reliance on the husband's meager earnings has resulted in frustrations and in most instances unable to meet the educational needs and even food for the family.
