How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
We have been residing in a one-room house with a partition separating the sleeping area from the kitchen, together with my wife and one child. I want to build a larger home this year, ideally one with two rooms so my family can live comfortably.
Also, I want to get at least two dairy cows so I may milk them at home and sell the milk to my neighbors.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The entire village is pleased with the good action, and I applaud GiveDirectly for a job well done. The financial help went a long way toward ensuring that all villagers' lives were transformed. We will always be appreciative and spread the word about this organization's great work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It was finally time for me to purchase my motorcycle and start working for myself after riding motorcycles for the previous few years. We had reached an amicable agreement, and I was able to pay my friend $500 after receiving my second transfer. I used the $30 that was left to pay for petrol and bike maintenance. Since I started this business, I've been making at least $4 every day, which goes toward meeting the necessities for my family. I am appreciative of the kind assistance we received as well as the changes my family has undergone since then.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received the money I was preparing to go to bed and it is not usual receiving messages that late. I got curious to check who might have sent it and to my amazement, it was a confirmation message of my first mobile money payment. I could not hold my excitement. I joyfully celebrated the good news and thanked God for the blessing.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is having created something constructive for myself. Both the business and the poultry projects are doing great, and I am making good profits out of them. This has enabled me to open a savings account for the first time in my life. I appreciate the support from Give Directly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
There was a family shop lying vacant at home. I operated someone's motorcycle who paid me on commission daily. The business is flooded and the highest amount I could make was KES 300 daily. With the current rise in the price of commodities, I could save any money. The receipt of the money motivated me to start up something for myself hence I stocked the shop that had stayed vacant for quite some time with food products, detergents, utensils, and other daily used household commodities at KES 25000. The business has grown, and I am making good profits from it. KES 25000 I spent on both constructing a poultry house and purchasing 12 chickens for rearing. I also bought two chairs at 3600 and used KES 1000 to purchase some foodstuffs for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving money from GiveDirecty will enable my dreams of being a registered teacher come true, I pursued a diploma in education but I was unable to graduate due to school fees arrears of KES 37,000. I have not be able to clear the balance because I have 3 siblings in high school and my parents are not able to cater for all our needs, I dropped out of college to run a motorbike businesses where I earn little amount from it. I am therefore planning to clear the balance to allow me pick up my certificate, this will grant me a chance to pursue my dream job of being a teacher.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have always thought of owning a good house and acquiring my teaching certificate which I haven't been able to get it due to financial instability. So last month I heard of GiveDirectly coming to our village and I was super excited about it and at the moment I am certain I will have all my desires fulfilled.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a motorcycle rider with the high cost of fuel in the country, the business has not been doing so well. Therefore earning daily income has been a great challenge, since the motorbike does not belong to me so I am forced to pay the owner at the end of each day.
