How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much better unlike before receiving the transfer. First, my son was joining high school and I could not be able to raise his school fees. The transfers gathered for it and I am a happy mother. On the other hand also when I got the first transfers, I took KES 10,000 and gave it to my husband to expand his second hand clothes business SInce then, his business is really doing well. The income he gets is enough to cater for all our needs and we even have extra to save. We are a happy family.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I am planning to spend the next transfer on starting a business. I would like to start a business dealing in second-hand clothes. I have been employed as a house girl for over 3 years. It is a job that I have been doing since I have no other option. In a month I get a salary of KES 3000 which is barely enough for the needs of the family. The transfers for me is a stepping stone to get self-employed. As soon as I start this business, I am certain that I will be having a better income. I now have greater dreams unlike before.I am grateful to God and GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the whole amount I received totaling KES 36800 on expenses and school fees for my son who joined form one this January. The transfers came in handy as I did not have money to use as school fees.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
part of my next transfer will be used to complete my son's school fees for the whole of next year then whatever remains I will invest in a business. There are lots of business ideas I have, but I am yet to settle on one which I know I will by the beginning of next year.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before I received the money I was constantly worried about how my son who recently completed his primary school would join secondary school because we do not have much income. With the money that I received and the rest that will come, I am now at ease because I know the problem is solved.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a huge part of the money I received on my son's initiation celebrations. That was a very important part of his life and it was only fair that we made it a perfect event especially because he is our first born son.The other half of the money has been saved because I intend to spend it on school requirements for the same boy who will soon join high school.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I was very much excited when I received the money because it came at a time when I had a lot of monetary problems. I was worried about how to raise money for my son's initiation ceremony which is quite a big deal in our community and still manage to send him to a good school next year. I am so grateful to GD for coming to my aid.
