How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year and beyond, I hope to continue to support my kid's educational needs since he is still in form 2. My dream is to ensure that he acquired a quality education that would assure him of a better future. Through education, my kid would be able to get his desired job to support himself as well as our household.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly did well in sending unconditional cash transfers to the less fortunate households in our community. Additionally, we were enrolled well without any discrimination on religious or political affiliation. I do not have anything that I feel they could do better since every thing went well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
First, the transfers come at the appropriate time when our secondborn had just completed primary school and was about to join secondary. I did not have any savings to further my child's studies. I spent the larger part of the recent transfer supporting his education. I spent $500 on shopping and clearing the payment of the tern one fee. Currently, I am happy that my child is learning without any problems something that has intensified our peace of mind as parents. Furthermore, I used the remaining amount to purchase enough food for the family. This is because my job of charcoal burning could not earn me enough income to feed the family as well as save for the children's education.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in my house relaxing after coming back from fetching water at the nearby pan. I was with my husband and co-wife relaxing while chatting with each other. I heard the news about the transfer from our neighbours who were rejoicing. My helper came to my house to confirm my account balance and if I had received the transfer like others. I was overwhelmed with joy when it landed to my ears that I had received the transfer. We jointly celebrated with my family members for receiving our transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Having a reliable source of income after starting livestock rearing is the biggest difference in my daily life. Currently, I am self-reliant and do not depend on my spouse for every need like before. In addition, I am optimistic that my kid will be able to continue with her secondary education without any problem after clearing the entire term one fees.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For more than 3 years, I have been spending my nights on the floor with sacks as bedding. This has been a miserable life since I was always feeling pains on my ribs every morning. I spent KES 10,000 to purchase a modern bed and mattress, I am currently very happy and enjoying my nights on proper bedding. In addition, I bought 4 goats for KES 10000 this was to start goats keeping a reliable source of income for the family as well as a future investment for my kid's education. Similarly, I used KES 30,000 to support the education of my kid who was joining secondary school. I did the necessary shopping as well as paid part of the required fees for the entire term. The remaining amount assisted me in acquiring enough food for the family since I had no food in my store.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My husband runs a retail shop at our trading center while I engage on charcoal production. The coming of Givedirectly will be a relief to me because the job is energy-draining and the return is not sustainable. I earn KES 2000 per month from the sale of charcoal. I plan to spend a portion of the transfers to add more
stock to my spouse's outlet. The business give an income of 400 per day which will contribute the our source of living. The remaining amount will buy five indigenous goats. As the goats multiply, I will sell at a profit and cato for other basic needs of the family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Honestly, life is tough for my household. Each day you strive to make ends meet. However, In December during Christmas, I celebrated with extended family members. We shared meals and light moments. This brought joy and happiness because it showed a sign of a strong bond amongst us which is a great legacy for the generation to come.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I and my husband have an income of KES 5000 after earnings from his shop and sell of charcoal. The proceeds are not sufficient for a family of 6 six members. In a day I need KES 400 to adequately meet all necessities in my household. Due to this, it is very difficult to ensure my children live a decent life, hence irregular income remains to be the major challenge that I am currently facing. Sometimes, they go to school hungry due to a lack of money to buy food. A situation that has affected their school performance.
