What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was sick and in the hospital at the time the transfers were sent. I was expecting twins and had to stay in the hospital for longer than intended due to issues with my delivery. Similarly, my twins were delivered and quickly became ill, necessitating continuous monitoring. Unfortunately, I only had KES 1,000 in savings at the moment. As a result, the transfers aided us in meeting my babies' medical expenses. I do not know how things would have turned out if the transfer had not been sent.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Give Directly does well by giving people unconditional cash and letting them decide on how to spend it. People feel empowered financially. On the other hand, they are not doing anything wrong, and they should keep up with the good work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I paid for my children's school fees with part of the recent transfer so that they could go back to school. They had been sent back home for the fee, and I am glad the money came right on time. If it was not for the money I doubt if I could have managed to pay the fee on time. I do casual work but is not reliable and the much I can earn from it is KES 150. KES 2000 I spent on the sand for expanding my house. I had a single room but it could not fit my family of 5. We were not comfortable sharing a room with my children. We are happy and much more comfortable because we have our space and privacy. KES 1650 I spent on food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received the transfer I was very happy. It was about 11 am in the morning when I received the transfer. My phone had been charging all night. I arrived home from the field where I was grazing the goats. On reaching at home a neighbor who was passing by informed me that he had received his transfer from GiveDirectly. I quickly became anxious and went ahead and picked my phone from the charging shop. I indeed confirmed that I had received the transfer too.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Yes, the transfer has made a big difference in my life. I used the transfer to buy food for my family at a time when I was struggling financially. The transfer really helped me.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I currently do not have any job. I depend on manual jobs to provide for my family. I earn a living by fetching water for other people. I earn KSH 25 bob for every jericans I deliver. I can manage to deliver 3 jericans in a period of 2 hours. During the lunch ours I have to rest due to the scorching sun. I can deliver up to 6 jericans of water per day. From that I earn a total of KSH 150 each day. The earnings are very little to meet the needs of my family. My husband depends on manual jobs and they are hard to find these days. When I received the transfer I spent KSH 570 in buying food for my family. In addition to that I spent KSH 600 in making my phone which had developed some problems.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been a house wife through out my life and my desire has been to start a business to support my husband who is a casual labour. Jobs have become scare nowadays and sometimes he can go a whole week without a job. It became hard for him to support the family with basic needs and pay school fees for our kids at the same time.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Waking up to see the sun everyday brings joy in my heart.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
It pains me seeing my kids being sent out of school almost every week. This has greatly affected their performance and I hope this money will be a solution to this challenge.
