How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had been operating a charcoal business using donkeys before GiveDiretly came to our village. I loved the business even though it was tiring moving for long-distance looking for customers since it had helped me see my family through. The business was a source of income to me and despite the challenges, my desire has been to maintain or improve this business. When I received my second transfer, I spent the entire transfer to buy a motorcycle. This to me is an investment that has greatly changed my daily life. Even though I changed the nature of my business, I feel I have got something better since this is more relaxed no long walk for longer distances to earn a living. I currently enjoy a higher daily income that has given me a chance to join saving plans through merry go rounds to cater more money for more investments and to meet my daily household with ease.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly made it clear their intention of visiting our village during the public meetings, trained us well and made sure that we were well informed. I love the most a chance that they allowed us to spend the transfer as per our wish, this an idea that had never happened to us before.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I had been operating a charcoal business using donkeys before GiveDiretly came to our village. I loved the business even though it was tiring moving for long-distance looking for customers since it had helped me see my family through. When I received my second transfer, I used the entire amount to buy a motorcycle, I made this idea to help me sustain my daily business but of a different nature. I still earn on daily basis through this motorcycle I use to carry people and luggage around with an exchange of money.

The moment I got a massage confirming that I had received money to my phone from Give Directly, I could not hide my joy and I celebrated together with my wife as we knew that what we had been waiting for too long will come to pass.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
The money which I got from Give directly as my first transfer, I spent KES 50000 to buy three cows. The rest I spent to buy maize for consumption. before we had no cow in our home but now we have some.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money mean great things are coming my way. I see myself a better person in the society. This is what I've been praying for and I believe God has just opened his doors. I'm going to plan prudently to minimize on wastage and capitalize on investments that give more returns.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day because there are not much disturbances at this moment. I wake up with a clear mind, feeling energized and refreshed.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Growing up without a father has been the biggest hardship I've faced in my life. I lost him when I was 3 years of age and things were tough . My mother struggled to raise and put us through school. I dropped out of school in class 7 because there was no much support to keep us in school. My mother concentrated on getting us food instead. Currently, I can say God has be grateful. Despite all the challenges that we encountered, I've grown to be a responsible man. I now have a happy family, blessed with 2 kids.
