How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After accomplishing my main goals of constructing a decent house for the family and starting goat rearing, My next desire is to improve goat keeping so that it may be a more sustainable and reliable activity. This will ensure that I can meet all the essential needs of the family something that will make me happy and at peace.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving cash as an aid to support the less fortunate households in society is what GiveDirectly did well. Allowing each household to decide how best to utilize the transfer has transformed the living standard of many. I do not see anything that it did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the recent transfer to construct a spacious house for my 4 children. Earlier, they were sleeping in a small structure that was leaking and about to collapse. I was always worried about their safety due to the nature of their shelter. Also, I spend KES 6000 to pay part of the school fees for the elder daughter who is in form 4. She had a huge fee balance that was making her education frequently interrupted. Similarly, I spent the remaining amount to complete the construction of a two-roomed house which I had begun with the first transfer but lacked enough money for roofing. Lastly, I bought sufficient food with the remaining part of the transfer.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the message notification of my transfer at around 4 pm. I had just arrived home from the bush where I has gone to pick up building poles for the construction of a new house. I waited for my son who had gone to school to confirm the message because I am uneducated. I was very happy when he disclose the good news that I had received my transfer. I thanked God for the cash that I had eagerly waited to change my life for better.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Able to own a decent shelter after I am through with the construction will be the biggest difference in my life. The construction that is going on at my home at the moment gives me hope that I will finally be living a better life in a comfortable house like others.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had wished to own a decent shelter for my family because we were residing in a temporary structure. I had lacked the finances to build a new house something that forced us to live a miserable life. The coming of the aid was a dream come true for my family. I spent the transfer to purchase 20 iron sheets, nails, and timber for the house construction. I also bought 2 goats a future investment for my 7 children who are still in school. I also bought a pair of school uniforms for each of my children because they were going to school with old and worn-out uniforms. Additionally, I paid KES 5000 school fees for my elder son who is in form 3, he had a huge fee balance that made him constantly being sent home. With the remaining amount, I bought food for the family of 10 members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My house is not in a good condition, my children, including myself, are always rained on whenever there is a downpour. My children books, my important documents are not saved either. This frustrates me but I can not do anything about it. This then is my only chance to build a better house and two Beds for my Children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy I am healthy, and my children are fine too. I have always wanted to raise some domestic animals so that I can rely on when I have some emergency, I managed to buy a goat and a chicken and this is only the beginning. I believe with the trasfers,I will be able to raise some more.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have four children going to school, It has been a burden getting school fees, my children are always home for school fees, the term has just started and three of them are still at home, looking for school fees. I didn't get a chance to go to school and it pains me a lot when I can not get my children to school.
