How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in such a way that, I managed to purchase a piece of land. Being a single parent, I have been living in my fathers compound which was also small. I was not comfortable at all because I knew my children would suffer soon. However, I had no option during these days becasue the little I was earning was only for my children's daily meals. I am now glad because I am even saving some cash so that I can construct a new house in my plot and live peacefully with my children. Also, through the transfers, I managed to clear school fees for my children and this is what I have been wanting. They are now styling with it being interfered ad it assures me that they will acquire better grades. I would have achieved all these if it were not for the funaciks support
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well because there was no discrimination at all. The enrolment was free and fair provided one agrees that he would wish to be part of the beneficiaries. No one was left out at all and this brought peace and harmony in the village and everyone wishes GiveDirectly come back for more goodies.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying an ox worthy of KES 20000. This has been my desire to own it for a couple of years specifically for my farming activities but could not afford it due to the poverty life that stricken my life. I also cleared school fees arrears for my children who are both in secondary school so that they can study without disturbances. With the remaing amount, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 2 PM when I heard my phone ringing. I was so nervous and I decided to check its content immediately. I realized it was an mpesa message from  Give Directly. They had debited my first transfer in my account. I was very happy and grateful. There are no words to express how happy I was at that moment.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before the coming of GiveDirectly, my life has been so terrible. This is because I divorced my spouse a couple of years ago and I had to return back to my father's compound. Ever since I have been the breadwinner for my family and making sure they go to school. Considering the fact that I even depend on temporary casual jobs, sometimes paying their school fees in time was not achievable. Therefore they were forced to stay home and some were demoralized and even opted to drop out of school. But then God was on our side, it is the same month when GiveDirectly came into my village and I was enrolled and promised to be among the beneficiary. After some time, I received the transfers and decided to send them back to school. I am now the happiest mum and I am positive that their future shall be bright together with their generation. And this makes the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying a piece of land at KES 30000. Since I am a single parent, I have been staying at my father's house which was like a burden to them becasue I also had children and the land was not that big. I later cleared school fees for my children who are in secondary and primary school. Also with remaining amount of money, I am using it in buying enough foodstuffs for my family and some other household items that I was lacking

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being a single parent and the only breadwinner for my family of 3 members, I have desired to educate my 2 girls so that they may have a bright future. Investing on their education is what receiving this money means to me. Currently, my kids are in secondary school one is form 1and the other is in form 3. I am planning to spend $ 660 clear their term one school fees. I will use the remaining amount to purchase a piece of land for my family since where we are living in my maternal home and I lack the right to ownership.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day. Waking up healthy with my family despite my challenges in life gives my joy and strength to continue working hard for a better day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of sufficient finances to support my children's education has been my biggest hardship. My husband choose to separate me 10 years ago and I was forced to return to my maternal home with my 2 girls. Charcoal vending is what I have known for our survival, Despite this job being laborious and low paying I am forced to do it in order to meet my family's basic needs like food and shelter. I am earning utmost 25 dollars per month which I use for food. I am remaining with no coin for my children education.
