How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been because I successfully boosted the spare parts business that I have been operating for quite some time. Initially, the business was somehow collapsing and it was because sometimes I could utilize the profits plus the little capital since it was the major source of income. Most of the time I could afford to settle my bills because in a day I could earn a profit of KES 150. Therefore after receiving the cash transfer I opted to revive it and I am now getting good returns. In a day, I normally make pits of KES 300. I am happier and hopeful now because I can be able to take good care of my family without straining
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to my, GiveDirectly did an excellent job in the entire village and you could tell this through the various transformations. Also, every beneficiary was well informed on how best he or she can utilize the money appropriately without wasting even a single coin. This was facilitated by the GD officers therefore in my opinion, I do not see any part GiveDirectly needs to change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I sent part of my second transfer on buying a pair of oxen at KES 35000. I have been yearning to own them for quite some time specifically for my agricultural activities but because of the financial difficulties, I couldn't afford them. I also bought bricks and sand, this was for the renovation of my house because it had very weak walls and I was worried maybe someday it would collapse. Also with the remaing amount, I bought enough foodstuffs fro the family and some decent clothes.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received an Mpesa message on my phone early in the morning. On reading the contents, I realized that GiveDirectly had sent me the first transfer. I felt happy because my plan of renovating my house would be fulfilled.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
During the planting season, I used to hire oxen for ploughing from my neighbours at a fee which was very expensive with a larger acreage. I am now relieved because I will no longer be hiring from them during the planting season. I now have my own pair that I will be using to prepare my farm timely. By doing this, I am assured of getting a good harvest.I will also be earning some money through them, since I will be hiring to other people at a fee. Owning the pair of oxen is the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying a pair of oxen to aid me in farming. Previously I was hiring the oxen from neighbours at fee. This was a bit expensive with a larger acreage, thus leaving part of my farm uncultivated. As a farmer, having my own pair will ensure that I do my preparation timely and to fully utilise my arable land. I saved the remaining amount which I am planning to spend it on buying cement and blocks to rebuild my house and make it more permanent. I had built it on a waterlogged area and it risks collapsing if not in a stable condition to withstand heavy rains.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have desired to advance my tailoring course which I started and failed to complete due to financial challenges. Receiving this money means the realization of my dream since I am planning to spend 150 dollars on paying my college fees and 150 dollars to purchase a brand new sewing machine. This will be a reliable source of income to support my family. The remaining amount will assist in seeking proper medical care to my stomach problem.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day, waking up healthy despite my stomach problem gives me hope and strength to do my days task.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Inadequate finances to seek proper medication for my stomach problem has been my biggest hardship I am facing in life. This has taken away the joy of my life because I was forced to forgo my studies in order to get treatment.
