How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different because the cash was sent to me at a time when I had just been involved in a tragic road accident and the suggestion from the doctors was for my limbs to be amputated in the event that I never had enough cash to go through the medical procedures. In addition to that, I would have never managed to do the final touches on my house like I have done so far and its all due to the financial help from give directly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly helps the poor by alleviating their lives through the cash transfers. Most people use the money to build new houses, making repairs on their house while others also use it to pay school fees for their kids. For me, the cash saved my life because weer it not for the organization, my limbs would have been amputated.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the money to cater for my medical bills because I was so sick at that particular time and I needed to get urgent medical check-up so I had to part with close to 47000 KES. Another portion of the house went into the repair of my house which was already in place but due to lack of enough money, I had never completed the final touches on the house. What remained from the total amount I received from the organization went into the purchase of food for the family.
