How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I plan to enlarge my shop business and be able to sustain a more stable income for my family. I hope to build a new shop and bring more stock. With a new and bigger shop I will have created a welcoming environment for customers hence growth and prosperity. In the end the business will meet our needs enhancing the well being of our family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before receiving Givedirectly transfers, my children would stay home due to lack of school fees. Now, they are always in school, and My husband, a hardworking teacher, earns only $60 a month, I make $1 daily from my small business which is never enough to sustain our household. Additionally, I spent $12 in buying poultry for income generation. The hope is that the poultry will contribute to raising funds for our household expenses, providing a sustainable source of income. Determined to improve our living conditions, I allocated $60 to purchase house repair materials. Our home was in a terrible state, and construction had halted due to financial difficulties. Now, with the necessary materials, we have resumed building a more comfortable living environment for our family. The Givedirectly transfers has reformed our lives.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal is just to have a bigger and more stocked stall. I have vegetables such as amaranth, kale, spinach and cabbage in my stall as well as tomatoes, eggplants, chillies and capsicum. My hope is to have much more than this that my stall is the one stop shop for anyone wishing to meet their grocery needs. I am also planning to build on my animal herds so they are much more and can be used as a source for cash in case of emergencies.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a mother of four, I run a small grocery stall around our area. Its my only source of income. My husband is a teacher and is our breadwinner. Because of the state of affairs due to the drought food was our biggest concern. Our earnings mainly focus on ensuring the family is well fed. So the transfers have been of a great help in sorting our our other needs, We used $15 in June and July, and $20 in August to settle school fee balance for our three school going children. I have also been able to reinvest in my business using the cash, $9 in June, and $10 in July.. I got chicken worth $2 each in July and got 4 chicken. I was able to have a wiggle room for food in August for $10 to go to food as I had sorted out my business through the profits.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main goal is to expand my business and provide the best to my familhy.. I currently do not have enough stock that would enable me to earn good profits, therefore, I would like to expand my business by renting a bigger place and adding more stock to maximize profits as this would enable my family not to face frequent financial challenges as before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfer that I received was of great help. I have a family of 6, and with the current economic times, fulfilling their needs had been quite a challenge because the business that so far had been of help was on the verge of collapsing and my husband on the other hand did also not have a reliable source of income. Focussing on the future, I decided to spend the transfers on something that would be of help to my family in the long run, and I, therefore, decided to buy 3 chicken for rearing worth $21 and spent the remaining amount of $13 on boosting my business, I felt so grateful to GiveDireclty for supporting me this far.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I'm quite grateful for the funds and the help that I got from GiveDirectly because, using this money, I was finally able to start up my own business where I sell groceries in order to take care of the needs of my family. As a result, my plan for this year is to keep my business as busy as possible with the constant transfers that I have received so that he can assist me with the day-to-day needs that will continue to rise in my household. I also intend on using the money to pay tuition for my kids because I want to help my husband pay the bills around the house, especially since his job does not pay as much and I do not want him to be overwhelmed.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had been running a grocery store, but I never had enough goods because I never had enough money to restock. As a result, I could hardly generate $5 in daily sales. I used $25 of the transfer to boost my business, and ever since then, I have been able to generate $10 in daily sales. As a result, I find it very simple to provide for my large family of six. Since receiving my recent transfer, I am not struggling as much. For the remainder of the transfer, $9 enabled me to buy food that satisfied our needs for two days. GiveDirectly's assistance is greatly appreciated.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The organization has changed our village positively. The cash transfer has made significant development that is evident all over the village. Throughout my interaction with the GiveDirectly officers, I did not see anything that was not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a business lady who specialises in selling groceries. I am blessed with four children and my husband is a teacher. Upon receiving my transfer, I used $25 to buy more items for my business. I then used the remaining $500 to buy foodstuffs. I am happy because with the additional transfer, my business would attract more profit. This was not possible before, due to other financial constraints. I am happy and grateful for the support that has uplifted my living standards amazingly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was delighted when I received the first transfer. I can remember it was around 4 pm while I was out running my usual errands when I received a confirmation message of the receipt of the money. I did not share the news with anyone but thanked God for it. My business was on the verge of failing and this got me worried. The receipt of the money meant that I would finally boost my business.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Improving my income has been my desire. I have a small grocery shop in a nearby market center where we raise money for our meals. My spouse is a primary school teacher and his salary mostly caters to our children's school fees and once in a while chips in to assist with our household meals. Having limited resources, we could, therefore, not be able to raise money for boosting the business. The receipt of the first transfer was a lifesaver. The business has picked and the profits have slightly improved. This is the biggest difference in my daily life. I believe the profits will triple with time after diversifying the business using the coming transfers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The desire to have a stable source of income that can adequately sustain my family's needs has been in my mind for years as I operate a small grocery shop in a nearby shopping center. My husband is a primary school teacher and his salary is mostly used to pay for our three children's school fees. I am, therefore, left in charge of daily household food with a bit of support from my spouse. Owing to the current rise in the prices of food commodities, the business can not sustain itself because there are times I end up spending the money meant for restocking. The business was on the verge of failing which got me worried. Thank God, that GiveDirectly came to my rescue. I used the whole of my first transfer to boost the business. I am impressed with the improved profits and looking forward to more of them after diversifying the business with the coming transfers.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My one desire is to expand my greengrocer vegetable business and add a variety of fruits to it. As I focus on expanding the business I will use the remaining amount of 2000 KES on daily upkeep and school fees for my three children in primary school. These transfers will play a big role in the expansion and education of my children. When my business is stable I will tap into the poultry business and grow financially with the same.
What is the happiest part of your day?
This January I was able to start my greengrocer vegetable business. I always desired to start something of my own and make my own money. I was excited about the first sales I made. It boosted my morale and to date, it is my main source of income.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been struggling to get enough money to provide food for my four children and pay for their school fees. I run a small greengrocer vegetable business, it is still in its prime stages and the returns are not as high because not so many people can afford to eat vegetables every day.
