How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
This year, my goal is to finally start poultry farming. It's something I've been wanting to do since last year, but I couldn't make it happen then. If I can achieve this, it would be a significant step for me. The plan is to sell chickens and goats that I bought with the second transfer from GiveDirectly, and the income from this venture will help me pay for school fees. This way, I aim to create a sustainable source of income that not only supports my family but also contributes to the education of my children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I haven't noticed any issues with GiveDirectly, and in my opinion, they should maintain their current programs. I'm genuinely grateful and happy about the assistance they've provided. Their interventions have made a positive impact on my life, and I appreciate the support they've offered. I believe they're doing a great job, and I'm content with their current approach.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I recently got $450 from GiveDirectly, and I made thoughtful choices with the money. I used $400 to pay for the school fees of my two kids who just started Form One. With a total of five kids, ensuring their education is vital, and I'm pleased to share that I have no fee balances now. I also allocated $3 to buy food for my family, ensuring there's enough to eat. These investments in education and family well-being have made a positive impact, bringing stability and relief to our daily lives.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year, my primary objective is to support the educational success of my children, particularly as two of them will be joining Form One. I intend to utilize the upcoming third transfer to facilitate their education. Additionally, I have a dream of initiating a poultry project with the aim of enhancing my income. Despite the challenges, I am proud and content with the achievements I have made thus far.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I express deep gratitude for the assistance I received, which has resulted in substantial transformations in my life. Overcoming financial difficulties and navigating the unpredictable weather patterns in our region previously hindered me from setting clear goals. However, this support has instilled in me a renewed sense of hope and has paved the way for brighter opportunities in the future, for which I am truly thankful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My family consists of my husband, our five children, and myself. While my husband relies on farming for our livelihood, I am engaged in a fruit-selling business at the center. Upon receiving our second transfer, my husband and I made the decision to invest it in constructing a new house for our growing children. The urgency arose as they were all grown, and sharing our existing small house had become impractical. Financial constraints, particularly due to directing our earnings toward school fees, had previously hindered us from expanding our living space. With the transfer, we spent $252 for the construction, bought two goats worth $108, settled a $30 debt, and used $60 to purchase essential foodstuffs. I am delighted that our children now have a more spacious and comfortable place to call home.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was deeply engrossed in my household chores when I suddenly heard my phone vibrate. I distinctly remember it was approximately 3pm. As I reached for my phone to see what had prompted the notification, I discovered that I had received a monetary transfer from GiveDirectly. This news was the highlight of my day, and I felt immensely grateful. Without hesitation, I shared this wonderful news with my equally delighted husband.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The most significant change in my daily life has resulted from the financial support I received. It has given me the means to easily install an irrigation system and procure essential food supplies. In the past, these goals were out of reach due to financial constraints. Now, I am brimming with hope as I embark on planting mangoes and pawpaws, a prospect that fills me with great joy and contentment. I will forever treasure the gift that has transformed my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Establishing an irrigation system has always been a long-held ambition of mine. Unfortunately, this dream remained unattainable due to financial constraints, as I am a farmer and my husband's income is derived from his job as a security guard. We are blessed with five children. Upon receiving my initial financial transfer, my husband and I believed it was the right time to connect water to our home, serving both domestic needs and farming purposes. We understood that this would empower us to cultivate and sell fruits and vegetables, providing an additional source of income. Consequently, we spent $120 towards the water connection, with the remaining funds being used for purchasing essential food items and clothing. I am delighted that this dream was finally realized in such a short span of time.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this transfer means so much to me and my family. Since we do not have enough food, we intend to purchase food using the first transfers. We intend to spend about $100 to purchase maize, beans, and other foodstuffs. For the remaining amount together with the second transfer we intend to purchase pipes. This is significant because it will offer us a chance to get water from the community water project. This will assist me so much since I will not go for long distances to fetch water for household use. In addition to this, whatever will remain together with the third transfer we intend to purchase 5000 liters which might cost about $300. For the remaining amount, we intend to purchase a generator which would give me a chance to plant crops that will offer me a source of money. With the success of our plans, I believe that my life will change for the better. I will live to remember GiveDirectly for their consideration and assistance.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiness over the past 6 months is in the well-being and health of my family. I'm happy because we've not had any quarrels with my husband and my children are healthy. I always thank God and feel happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
There are many challenges that we are faced with at the moment. However, the most pressing challenge is a lack of water. Since our area is prone to prolonged droughts I'm forced to work for 2 kilometers in search of water. This has made life very difficult because I have a two-month-old baby who I have to carry when fetching water.
