Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had gone to grind maize flour when I got a text message that I hade received money from Give Directly. I felt so happy and thanked God for the gift. Almost everyone in our family had the received their money weeks prior except me. I was therefore, waiting for this moment.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is the feeling of independence, happiness, and peace of mind I have for having my own home. I can now make decisions on my own. There are also no more unnecessary quarrels with my in-laws.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the whole of the first transfer on the building materials which I used to construct a home. We were previously staying at my father-in-law's home but there was not enough space for farming. Before the transfers, we had bought a piece of land, but we did not have money for constructing a house. The money was sent on time, and I am so grateful I own a home. It is so peaceful.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I differed my college education in 2019 due to lack of school fees. I was in my second year then and my parents were unable to cater for my studies as they have no reliable source of income. I am remaining with 2 semesters in order to finish my procurement course. Receiving this money means that I will use KES 60000 to clear the remaining balance plus accommodation. For the remaining balance, I intend to buy a small piece of land for us to relocate as the current place is small; bearing in mind my husband has many siblings.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My husband got a salary increase two months ago in his place of work. This was attributed to his hard work and determination. Since he is the firstborn, he has taken responsibility to pay school fees for his younger siblings as well as fend for us. We thank God for this as we pray for more blessings.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I differed my college education two years ago because of lack of school fees and decided to get married. Life has been difficult since I cannot secure any job due to lack of enough education documents. I am currently a housewife carrying out household chores. Living with the reality of not being able to finish my studies pains me off.
