How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am hoping that very soon I will be able to purchase a dairy cow. I am positive that once I own it, I will benefit from the milk that it will produce daily. I plan to sell to the local dairy shops and local restaurants in the neighboring town and earn some cash. I will therefore save the money specifically for my children's school fees. I will, however, not have to strain as much as I have before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has made a huge impact on my entire village. This is evident since a good number of us own permanent houses. Apart from that, no one owned livestock, but almost every household has quite a number now. Therefore, according to me, this organization has done nothing wrong that requires action.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying three goats for $120. For years, I have had a yearning for at least owning one, but I could not afford them because of financial difficulties. I, however, settled for the goats because the climate in my region is favorable. To add to that, they normally reproduce twice a year, and the offspring mature quickly. I am hoping that once my children will be transitioning to secondary schools, they will have multiplied and sold some to cater for their fees. Also, I will be able to sort out any kind of financial crisis that might arise. For now, I feel relieved that it will be a source of income, considering that I have been depending on farming activities. Later on, I paid school fees for my son in primary school to avoid having him sent home regularly. With the remaining amount of money, I had to purchase food items and other household needs.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I recall being preoccupied with housework at the time I received my transfer. When I picked up my phone, I saw a message on the screen. Because I could read, I asked my husband to read the message to me. He confirmed that we had received money from GiveDirectly after reading with great joy and excitement. This was the most joyful time of my life. This is because we were confident that we would achieve our goals. This made us happy and thankful to God for the precious gift.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Receiving money from GiveDirectly was a divine blessing. This is because it significantly altered our daily lives, allowing me to realize my dream in a short period, which is a dream come true. Second, we were able to pay our children's school fees comfortably, which was not the case previously. We will be eternally grateful to the organization for their kind gesture.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband works in a butchery, and I am a farmer. We are fortunate to have two children together. My husband and I chose to spend our initial transfer money on paying $50 in school fees for our children. The remaining funds were then used to purchase a cow and a goat. This was previously not possible due to unreliable income sources. We are grateful that our children can attend school comfortably and that we have our animals to care for, which is a dream come true.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I think investing in livestock would be the right step to make. Have a dairy cow that will supply us with milk and in addition sell the milk in the market. My husband Robert runs a butchery and I know with his help I can buy one or two cows at a fair price of $600. It will be fulfilling to earn some money on my own rather than depend on my husband for everything.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am most grateful for the gift of life. The past nine years have been quite challenging after I developed some health complications after giving birth to my second child. I have been to the hospital countless times and it's a joy that I am healed. I thank God that he turned my tears into joy and I can now smile again.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My heart is crying out for independence, making my own money to cater to my personal needs. I do not like the fact that I have to ask for money from my husband anytime I need something. It is embarrassing that even money for airtime has to come from his pocket. How I long that I could have a business to facilitate my daily upkeep.
