How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life would have been very different had I not received the financial support. I stay with my old husband who cannot manage to even find a piece work to find money to provide basic needs for the family. Before receiving the transfers, I used to do piece works in the fields of other people to find money for food but that is a thing of the past. After receiving the transfers, I managed to build a house as well as to buy food for the family. I also managed to buy fertilizer for the next farming season. Honestly speaking, I would not have managed to do all these things had it not been for your financial support as I had no source of income. May God bless you.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly do well by giving recipients advise on how to spend the transfers. Mostly we are asked to use the money on things that will benefit our lives like building houses or using the money as capital for different business so that we should have something for ourselves once the organisations is no longer giving us the social cash transfers. On the other hand, it will be wrong to say that GiveDirectly do something wrong when giving the transfers. They do things in the right way that am happy they helped me a lot.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my second transfer to build a house. After receiving the first transfers, I bought Iron sheets as well as moulding bricks. I was waiting to receive my second transfers to have money money to pay those people to help me in building the house. I also used the money to buy mattress and blankets for my family as we lacked these things. As a family we did not have a proper place to sleep on as well as something to cover ourselves with at night. I also managed to buy fertilizer for the next farming season as I want to harvest more crops.
