How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would hope to accomplish so much but money is the determining factor . I would even wish to to buy plots , build houses and start a business , but I have no money . The only thing that I hope to accomplish next year and beyond , is to have my children get quality education and later get employment , since that is the only key to their success . I need a lot of money since I have one child in college , two have finished secondary and hoping to join college , two are also hoping to join form one . I know it will require a lot of money but I hope my husband will manage .
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly does everything well . You have helped people who didn't houses to build good houses . Parents have now taken their children , who had dropped out of school due to school fees , back to school . People in this village are now great business owners courtesy of the money they received from Give Directly . You have brought a lot of benefits into this village . There is completely nothing to improve on .
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I'm jobless I have no source of income my family depends on my husband , who is a teacher , for basic needs . I was so happy after I received this money because I new finally my plans of taking my children to school would materialise . I had a child who had completed secondary school but had not yet joined college due to lack of fees . So I took $250 , added my own savings and took him to college to enroll for a course in nursing . My two sons who are in form four had school fees arrears of $80 and $70 respectively , I cleared it . We also had no food in the house and since I wanted to lessen the burden for my husband , I spent the remaining $150 on ten litres of cooking oil , twenty five kilo grams of rice and forty eight kilograms of maize flour . I'm not sure what the balance was , but I remember also spending it on my four young children who are in primary school . I bought for them few books and paid for their tuition fees .

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I remember it was around 6 in the evening when I received the mobile money message. Since we had many plans with my husband, I had to call him and share with him the good news.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I'm more relaxed knowing that my son is now happy in school and he is able to chase his dreams.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When my son graduated from high school, he couldn't proceed to collage because my husband who is a teacher had a huge burden of paying school fees for our three sons who are in high school. His wish was to go to college and chase his dreams and it used to sadden me seeing him watch his dreams slip away. My goal was to take him to college when I receive my transfers and I spent KES 15000 to pay for his admission to collage and first semester's fees. I also spent KES 40000 to redeem school fees for our 3 sons who are in high school and I'm sure that will make it easy for my husband who has been struggling with paying bills alone.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have three children who are in secondary school and all require around KES 10,000 per academic term. This money from Givedirectly will enable me to pay school fees so that they have continued education. I plan to spend KES 80,000 for that and use the remaining amount to start a grocery store. I will rely on the local market from the nearby villagers who are readily available. The proceeds which are KES 6000 per month will be saved for the basic needs of the household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Last month on Christmas day I celebrated with my relatives who live and work in town. They came home with their families where we had a feast together. This brought me joy and happiness because it symbolizes the unity and strength of our homestead which is a good legacy for our children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints have remained to be a major challenge that I am currently facing. My household has seven members and all of us depend on my husband who is a teacher. His salary cannot meet all the needs of the family. He recently took a loan to pay school fees for our kids who are in secondary school. Due to this, life has not been easy especially addressing the necessities of the household. Occasionally, they stay at home as a result of fee balances which affects their performances.
