How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My son used to live in a small grass thatched house. When I received the transfer my new goal was to build a better house for him. I was able to purchased all the necessary material and build a better house for my son. He is now happy and live comfortably.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does a well In that they were able to enroll all the eligible recipient and all received the transfer on time. There was no discrimination. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 35,000 to pay school fees for my daughter on college and the other one in secondary school. This was my main priority. My children used to be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting their performance in school. I depend on farming as main source of income. This earns me small income and I was not in position to pay school fees on time. I spent part of the remaining transfer on completing the construction of the house for my son that I had started using the first transfer. I am so grateful because he now lives in a better house. He used to live in a small grass thatched house. Finally I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly fulfilled their promise and improved our living standards.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was preparing my farm for the next planting season when I heard my phone ringing, I stopped to check what the message was all about, that was when I saw a Mpesa message notification, I was curious to know who had sent money to me that early morning, on confirming I realized that it was the promised transfer from GiveDirectly and I was grateful to God for showering me with the wonderful blessing that morning, I knew my children's school fees would be catered for and that alone made me happy and satisfied.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am a proud parent because I have cleared the school fees arrears for my two children who are schooling, In addition to that I now own a dairy cow that will be producing milk for us, For the first time in a long time I will be able to save money that I used in purchasing milk daily, GiveDirectly has changed my life in a big way, I believe that the money was God sent because it came in the right time of need when we needed it most. I am grateful for the support that impacted our lives positively.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a consistent farmer, I depend on the farm produce to earn a living, I am also a mother of six children and a wife, school fees have been my major worry, we depend on the farm produce but lately the harvest is so little due to the harsh weather conditions in our region, therefore when I received my transfer I decided to clear the school fees arrears of KES 10,000 for my secondary school child, I then paid KES 10,000 for my son's college education, I then bought a dairy cow worth KES 20,000 so that I could cut down on the cost of buying milk daily, I am glad that GiveDirectly has lifted my life to a level that is admirable in the society.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have undergone untold suffering with my family in this place because we usually depend on farming but lately the weather patterns in this place have changed and we have had to hardly survive on casual jobs that are rare to come by. Receiving this money therefore would mean that my elder child will be able to start his college education because I shall be able to cater for her school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is usually in the morning because it is at this point that I have energy to toil for my children for them to have food at the end of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We used to depend on farming to get our livelihood but weather patterns over the years have changed for the worse which have made life so difficult. Our children dropping out of school due to lack of school fees is the biggest challenge I have ever faced.
