We currently stay in a very small piece of land where we are limited in terms of what we can do as far as agriculture is concerned. Having invested our money in things that will give us profits in the days to come, we feel we also need to buy a piece of land in the near future. How we plan to excecute this is through actively taking part in merry go round contributions that will help us in saving the money and later on buy livestock and when we are ready we can sell them and buy a piece of land next to the place we are currently staying in.

In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by giving money without giving conditions on how to spend. In the past we have had NGOs that comes and makes decision on their own on what they think is good for the community but with GiveDirectly I feel each and every person was given an opportunity to decide on how to spend the money.

We used KES 35000to buy a timber smoothening machine for my husband who works as a carpenter. He had wanted to buy this machine and expand his business for a long time but the myriad of needs from family would not allow him implement this. When we received money from GiveDirectly, we made a decision to buy one and we are happy and excited that his business is now picking up very well. We look forward to making more money from this carpentry business and changing our living standards as a whole. I had had to remain at home leaving my husband to gather for all the needs of my family in order to take care of our two young children and this reduced the income that we received as a family by a great extent but I am now happy that this transfer came to help us realize some of the things we would not have achieved anytime soon.
